Raised on the Canadian prairies with Filipino, Scottish, and Irish roots, Babxi has been living in Berlin since 2013. Her sound is an indulgent mix of high-energy, oft nostalgic & positive grooves for free spirits and old souls. In January, she made her debut playing for The Disco Express as part of a powerhouse all-female line-up at the Crack Bellmer residency. She recently played at Ponyboy in Brooklyn (where TDE holds its New York City residency!) and in 2024, you can catch her performing live on Hör Berlin, as well as at upcoming gigs at Hive Festival's Disco Forest, Würzel Festival, and KaterBlau.

Get to know Babxi’s 'Dreamcatcher of Disco House' in this new guest mix for The Disco Express. This was her inspiration: “Putting this guest mix together, I reminisced on the countless CDs I used to burn for road trips growing up on the Western Canadian prairies,” she says. “About a dozen tracks, with a bit of everything feel-good and catchy.

So for one of my favourite labels, The Disco Express, I aimed to show out my essentials: the mix introduces some of the nu disco producers I play from the most, funky edits bringing fresh, cheeky vibes to tried-and-true classics (while preserving what makes classics, well, classics!), as well as a couple tracks from producer duos in Canada and Germany (where I grew up and where I live now). Plus, an update of one of my dear dad’s favourite soul disco songs – some of my best road trip memories were definitely with him!”

*How would you describe your sound?*

It’s funk, disco and house. Percussion is one of the most essential elements in our music! But I also would describe it as summery with the goal that people feel good and want to dance. 

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

We are inspired by so many music and artists. You can hear that in the diversity of our tracks. We are inspired by African music, jazz but also funk, disco and house classics.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

The mix shows the different approaches of our productions we did so far. From live band sound and originals, to remixes and edits.
