This week's Disquiet Junto assignment was to do a Pig Latin version of an existing piece of music. I decided to try something with my track Ottomans off my 2018 album 'Everything Happens, For Some Reason'. Original track is here: https://soundcloud.com/nonwrestler/jet-jaguar-ottomans

'Ottomans' is in polymeter - the different instrumental parts are in different time signatures. I wanted to work with something using polymeter because in Pig Latin it's not like you force the "ay" syllable in at regular time intervals - you do it according to the length of the word. 

So I decided to play an A at the end of very bar of the existing phrases, pushing out the original time signature of each phrase. I had to push the whole track down a semitone to make this in key. 

Then, say the original phrase was 4 bars of 4/4, I turned it into 4 bars of 5/4. with an A playing on the 5th beat of every bar. For the original 4 beats I reshuffled them like you would with Pig Latin, so instead of going 1 2 3 4 A, it goes 2 3 4 1 A. I followed the same kind of idea always inserting an A for a crotchet length at the end of each bar, e.g. turning bars of 7/8 into 9/8 and so on.

I made basically no changes to the arrangement of the original track, like when things fade in and out, but the different length phrases change things quite a bit to my ears.

Back And Forth is the new label created in january 2011 by Nicola Sansoni, member of the venetian duo Cosmic Cowboys, with the target of exploring the obscure depths of club music. 

This new label wants to cross the borders between deep, tech and house, melting all the musical backgrounds and experiences of each artists into a common way of thinking about music and a unique idea of what music should represent: respect, love for the quality and the details, friendship and collaboration, all resumed in the concept: "Love Comes First". 

Representing some of the best new names in Europe, Back And Forth is definitely going to be one of the labels to watch out in the next years, receiving already the support of all the finest djs worldwide.
