I made Chant de Paris the day before my first solo live show at the club showcase in Paris, hence the name for the track and EP.

Over the last 17 years, Sebastian Mullaert has had a long and distinguished career as one half of hardware experimentalist duo Minilogue, with releases on Cocoon, Wagon Repair and Crosstown Rebels. Now opting to focus more on solo endeavors, he hits the ground running with his sublime Ovum debut. Clocking in at a hefty 16 minutes in length, the title track is a heady excursion which flirts with reverb-drenched ouds and meandering keyboard scales, conveying an air of Arabic mystique. An array of acidic synths move in and out of focus, whilst skittering hi-hats and ride cymbals slowly build upon rafts of kinetic energy, all programmed with a deft, organic touch.In an impressive display of versatility, Mullaert promptly flips the vibe from Berlin basement to Ibiza sunset with Recapturing the Radical Self. It starts off similarly enough, with brooding 303 squelches and sharp claps, but slowly ascends into a state of full-on Balearic bliss. 🎶 zijn presents "Meditation" Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 285 🎶

Es war vor gut einem Jahr mitten im Wald am Lagerfeuer, als ich das erste Mal einen Mix vom Moritz aka Zijn gehört habe. Ich war sofort hin und weg von der hypnothischen Wirkung seines alles anderen als gängigen Downtempo Sounds. Dazu gespickt mit faszinierenden Tracks aus vergangenen Zeiten. Das er zu unserer Reihe eingeladen werden musste, stand sofort fest. Daher freut es mich ungemein, dass er sofort mit an Bord war und einen Mix der absoluten Spitzenklasse aufgenommen hat, der den Namen Afterhour Sound absolut verdient. Dieses und vieles weitere verätt er uns in seinem Interview.

✔️ Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse?
Musik ist schon immer Teil meines Lebens, und früh auch elektronische. Mit 18 habe ich angefangen mit gebrannten CD's Goa aufzulegen, und mich von da an durch verschiedene Genres und technische Innovationen gemixt. Was mich zu dem Sound geführt hat, der heute aus mir rauskommt, ist aber eine wilde Mischung aus klassischer Musik, HipHop, Metal und Psy. Das waren zumindest so meine musikalischen Phasen, die mich bis zum Techno und schließlich Downtempo geführt haben, und die sicher ihre Spuren hinterlassen haben, im Bezug auf Rhythmen aber auch die Wirkung verschiedener Klangbilder. Heute ist es mir wichtig, meiner Musik einen transzendenten, rituellen Charakter zu verleihen.

✔️ Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus? 
Wenn alle komplett verscheppert/ verstrahlt und ganz im Moment sind doch eigentlich niemand mehr irgendwas wirklich versteht, aber alle es unglaublich toll finden, dass der Moment gerade so passiert. Das passt eigentlich auch gut zu meinem Sound...der nimmt eine*n nämlich am liebsten auch mit auf eine gedankenlose magische Reise durch Raum und Zeit...

✔️ Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben? 
Meditation ist ein Zustand, der durch Musik erreicht werden kann, weil sie meinen Geist beruhigt und mir ermöglicht, aufzugehen und mit allen Sinnen wahrzunehmen. Ich wünsche allen Hörer*innen, mit meinem Set ein bisschen von diesem Gefühl bzw. Zustand mitzugeben.

For its first release of 2010, Ai revisits Sinner DC’s Crystallized long player from last year. Slowing down since...

Rasmus Backhaus is a Copenhagen based dj, who has been around for quite a while now and he is one half  of the dj duo Angebot. 

Even though his main influence and inspiration comes from Berlin, he spent his first four years dj’ing in metropolitan Barcelona back in the year of 2001, playing venues such as Macarena microclub, Apolo, La Paloma and Le Kasbah. He moved back to Copenhagen in 2005 where he quickly became a strong contender among the Danish dj circuit, dj'ing mainly at Vega Nightclub and at the now closed and legendary open-air venue, Luftkastellet. 

In the summer of 2019 Backhaus hooked up with friend and colleague, Bow Miller, and together they created Angebot.
Angebot is the result of their common interest and passion for world music and deep-driving downtempo.

These days he wants to play less, but good so to speak. Choosing only venues with the soundsystem and good vibes that he likes, such as Werkstatt, Hangaren and his all time favourite bar in the centre of Copenhagen, Log Lady

When dj'ing, Backhaus is all about connecting with the crowd, so that he can do what he does best; playing nice and deep mid-tempo electronic music, that leaves you bouncing and filled with warmth.
