Goth Babe - Wasted Time

Gentrification sent an eviction notice to the doors of his Creamery Analog studio — where he produced such acts as The Dutchess and the Duke, TV Ghost, Case Studies and The Mantles over almost a decade-long residence. After a spiritual retreat to Texas, Ashley reemerged in the Bay to begin work on a new studio, inhabiting a church just blocks from his former location.

In celebration of this transcendence, Bad Diet is releasing two archival nuggets that exhibit Greg Ashley’s genius, described by the SF Weekly as, “a true psychedelic visionary, maybe the greatest of his generation.”

“Living Underground” is a slip inside the peak years of Ashley’s widely-lauded act, The Gris Gris. Recorded in 2005, the lost gem’s haunting vocals and pounding back beat combine in a ritual resurrecting the band’s finest offerings. It also grounds The Gris Gris’ stake as progenitors of the Bay Area’s contemporary psych and garage scenes.

Centered around the trio of Free Weed, Jerry Rogers, and Totally You, The Stoners "On Gnar Tapes" is a lo-fi psych freak beat tape inspired by "The Pod"-era Ween, Butthole Surfers' song "Pepper", early 90's Memphis rap, and Madchester. As Acid Baby Jesus get ready for a UK/European tour kicking off next week, the Athens four-piece are now sharing the pacing, hip-shaking garage-rock opus ‘Guide Us In’ – the second single from their long-overdue third LP Lilac Days, due for release September 29th on Fuzz Club.

It’s easy to guess Acid Baby Jesus’ shtick just going on their name but to those who aren’t already in the know: don’t be fooled into thinking these are just another quasi-religious, LSD-loving psych-rock band - there’s a reason these Greek garage-rockers having been championed so highly in the International psych/rock’n’roll scene. Acid Baby Jesus are less concerned with the spiritual and tripped-out realms that their name foreshadows than they are with pure garage-rock hedonism.

Formed in Athens in 2009 the four-piece have two LPs behind them – their debut ‘LP’ and demo collection ‘Selected Recordings’ - and after a long, three-year wait they’re back with the new album ‘Lilac Days’ – their first on Fuzz Club Records, officially released September 29th. The album sees ABJ at their best; their scrappy, frenetic garage-rock distilling a hazy, incense-scented mix of 60s Western psychedelic pop, traditional Eastern folk and the scuzzy rock’n’roll sounds of Black Lips or Thee Oh Sees.
