For misanthrop the answer to this question is rooted in the influence that money can have and it is also the essential inspiration for his long-overdue solo EP entitled GREED OF GAIN.

Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. Lead single ‘Ego’ will be released on 7th December via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, drawing an end to a prolific 2014 for the label. 

‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone for the rest of the EP, with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs underpining dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops. Skittering melodics then give way to signature frenetic beats and firing drums to round off proceedings in style.

Blackout have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long-term collaborators State Of Mind - who released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via Blackout earlier this year - feeds into the hype already surrounding the label moving into 2015.

This track pretty much explains itself. The name doesn't stand for anything, it is just 'Simple' with the vowels removed, hence the vocal sample. This one was inspired by the minimal era that came around a few years ago, old Rockwell, Icicle, Amoss, and Octane & DLR tracks that were bare bones, but not. They had all the needed to have, and that's something that's extremely hard to do nowadays without sounding empty.

The third sampler from 'Tech Dreams | The Remixes' project dives deep into the emotive and progressive side of the project. Des McMahon reinterprets 'Face' - one of Zombie Cats' most immersive cuts from the original 'Tech Dreams' LP - and transforms it into a textured, cinematic journey through light and shadow.

Philadelphia-born Des McMahon has carved out a distinct voice in drum & bass, one that bridges the gap between sound design sophistication and musical storytelling. With releases across labels such as Play Me, Viper, and Beyond Bass, Des' work often leans toward the atmospheric and progressive - subtle builds, layered percussion, and melodic arcs that unfold with purpose. 

McMahon's remix of 'Face' builds upon that ethos. The original's emotive framework becomes a platform for slow-burn evolution - hypnotic pads, understated percussion, and a bassline that pulses like a heartbeat beneath the surface. Each layer emerges gradually, creating a sense of momentum and introspection that's perfect for both headphone sessions and late-night club transitions.
