Phidelity - Cloud Architecture

This is the first song I ever released! To top it off its a remix of two heros of mine... Steve Hillage, whos been putting out seminal releases since the 70's and my buddy evan, whos an all around amazing person.

I went for an aquatic feel on this one, inspired by snorkeling in hawaii and the feel of carefree buoyancy and lazy weightlessness =)

I was really inspired by a video a friend sent me today and kind of based the whole minute around that. I've been trying for a long time to get synths to sound like this and I think I've finally figured it out. I've been trying to be healthier recently so I promised myself a month ago that I wouldn't eat candy until Halloween. The problem is that I feel kind of sick already, I don't think my body can handle candy the way it used to be able to. I used to be known across the land as, "Candy Andy." I think those days are gone.

»sleepstep« is the first collaboration between raster-noton and dasha rush. the record‘s subtitle »sonar poems for my sleepless friends« describes its underlying concept – »sleepstep« is a trip through electronically alienated microcompositions and sound collages that, interwoven with text passages, aim at creating a dream-like atmosphere.

the stations of this journey are striving for oblivion of time, an immersion, a drifting in universal states – death, life, birth, grief, desire. the titles often appear to be raw sketches, fugitive, surreal short stories that rather want to break open than execute.

the musical arrangement, in this context, can be described as rather subtle and fragile. though electronically manipulated, no production technique is pushing itself to the fore. and though clichés are not dreaded, »sleepstep«, as a result, stays away from being cliché. the sonar poems for her sleepless friends are feminine, subtle and personal reports. a musical dream journey in the form of a classical concept record – an album that also stands in the tradition of ambient music.

dasha rush is already known as a techno dj and producer. here on »sleepstep«, she celebrates her alter ego. the cd version comes with a 32-pages booklet that also shows her photographic interest and includes the aforementioned poems written by her. furthermore there is 2 x 12" vinyl version.

This is the final mastered version of my remix of Quades Cog Labin. I will be releasing another track of theirs I remixed free via bandcamp in a few weeks. Stay tuned.

Bad Sector 'Ampos' Live

20 years in the making, Nothing But Noise, the trio led by Front 242 mastermind Daniel B and featuring original Front 242 member Dirk Bergen and Erwin Jadot, finally release their debut album ‘Not Bleeding Red’ on April 16th,  2012 on UK independent Future Noise Music.

Borne from a deep love of analogue synthesizers and inspired by the likes of Manuel Gottching, Tangerine Dream’s early albums and Bowie’s Berlin period, ‘Not Bleeding Red’ is an album that fully deserves its place in the long and distinguished history of European synth acts.

Created in Daniel B’s studio the album features an array of rare and vintage analogue synthesizers such as the Moog Voyager, Prophet8, Juno 106 and Arp Odyssey. No nostalgia fest though, the album also explores the possibilities afforded by today’s new breed of analogue synthesizers. It’s lineage might be clear but this is an album that looks forward, respectful of the past but not in its thrall.

‘Not Bleeding Red’ is an expansive affair, an album in love with sound itself and tracks such as the elegiac nearly 19 minute long ‘CK’ are given time to evolve and develop in stately fashion, unfolding like some grand cosmic ballet.  

Uncompromising and haunting, this is an album that conjures up vast vistas of space, both cold and beautiful at the same time. On tracks like ‘Puzzle Cosmique’ and ‘Second Seven’ Nothing but Noise join the dots between the likes of electronic pioneers such as the Radiophonic Workshop through to present day acts such as Sunn O))). 

Having honed the Nothing But Noise sound over the course of two decades and a series of critically acclaimed live performances, ‘Not Bleeding Red’ is the culmination of a lifetime’s obsession with synthesized sound and a timeless example of how raw circuit boards can produce something stunningly beautiful.

A fully realised concept ‘Not Bleeding Red’ arrives in sumptuous packaging, complete with accompanying iPad screens and desktop wallpapers, all designed and produced by Daniel B himself. The album will be released digitally, on double vinyl and in a 2CD edition.
