This week in The Armory we are absolutely thrilled to be featuring two of America’s finest purveyors of the broken beat, Chicago’s Keith MacKenzie and Orlando’s DJ Fixx. It’s about to get filthy up in here! Press play. Get down. 

Illeven:Eleven Recordings’ label boss Keith MacKenzie's contributions to the breakbeat scene cannot be overstated. After honing his skills as a DJ in the 90's Florida scene alongside luminaries like DJ Icey, DJ Fixx and Infiniti, Keith's move into the label game sought to combine his various influences under one roof. Although the primary focus has been bass-driven breaks music, the label built a reputation for releasing quality collaborations from artists working across electronic genres, quickly making it a Beatport favorite. 

Besides his own productions with DJ Fixx (as KMFX), the ever-growing list of releases have included music from producers like Calvertron, Deekline & Ed Solo, Hatiras, Bass Kleph and Gigi Barocco, as well as frequent vocal contributions by the likes of Sporty-O, Sue Cho and Whiskey Pete.  In addition to gigging extensively in North America, the last few years have seen Keith's profile boosted to international breakbeat fame. Over the last year alone, Keith has smashed dancefloors in Spain, Russia, Rome, and London, constantly pushing his potent formula of party-rocking breaks to new heights.

Over the past 15 years, breakbeat pioneer DJ Fixx has been stocking the shelves of record stores everywhere. Said by many as one of the most innovative and consistent producers in the industry, he continues to deliver some of the most sought after breakbeat tracks available. Making his debut in 1998, Fixx produced over 75 anthems on the classic Kaleidoscope Music label. Many of these timeless tracks are still played frequently today. This was then followed by Fixx's own personal imprint, Bottom-End Records (2004-2008). Managed by Afterdark, the BER trademark produced some of the biggest anthems in the industry, easily claiming the spot of one of the top five best-selling domestic labels in the country. Alongside of Keith MacKenzie, Fixx is currently a leading producer for Keith's illeven:eleven label. Frequent solo installments can be found on ILL, as well as collaborations with Keith under the production duo 'KMFX'. With over 150 12-inch releases, over 200 exclusive digital releases, and eight massively-distributed CDs under his belt, Fixx has assembled one impressive Discography. Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is very pound to welcome back one of the Ghetto Funk scenes finest producers: B-Side for the second installment of his Party Bangers series. This time he’s teamed up with another heavyweighter – BBP’s very own BadboE to line up 4 big tunes designed for maximum dancefloor destruction!

Party Bangers Vol. 2 takes us on a musical journey through different areas of electronic funk: from the peak time ghetto funk bangers – over Reggae grooves, electro swing to end up with a disco anthem. The musicality plays a big role on these tunes and its easy to recognize both producers signature through-out this EP.        

The EP kicks off with a big electric funk bangers Funk Me Again, which takes elements from a classic funk jam and mixes it with some J5 party rap in a progressive ghetto funk arrangement. Rewind it Back takes on some catchy reggae summer grooves and slams on some big beats and wobble basslines. Do You Wanna Ride flips it around with some electro swing vibes to makes sure the party keeps on riding. Advent Day 2016 #1 - Rory Hoy

Elite Force aka Simon Shackleton has had an extensive career spanning over 20 years. Starting off as a musician and being a band member with Thom Yorke before moving onto his own outfit called Lunatic Calm which had quite a successful career and a few number one tunes including "Rollercoaster". Simon has also worked with a bunch of top acts, remixed, wrote movie soundtracks, toured and was one to watch in the Nuskool Breaks scene. He then developed the Tech Funk genre in the late 2000's included with such artists as Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes to name a few. Nowadays Simon plays marathon 6 hour LIVE sets in his "One Series" and has moved into the world of professional photography.

Kai Peh was into electronic music since the beginning. The first steps he took in producing own music started in 1999 with a Roland MC 505 and his guitar, aiming to combine acoustic sounds with electronic percussion and synthesizers. Unfortunately, life turned in another direction so he had to give it up for a while. Now, after a long break he's back in the game, following his goal to combine the old and the new. Over the last year he already gained a great reach, releasing his music at Stulp Fictions label 'Stulp Music'. Influenced by Techno, Tech-House, Disco and Trance as well as elements like groovy acoustic instruments, loud basses and percussion - all this forms the unique style of Kai Peh!

If you followed last years LSM advent calendar, you'll know that we invited along the Breakbeat legends, Drumattic Twins, to brings us the beats to finish off our 25 days in style. For 2016, we thought we'd carry on with the legends theme and invite a couple of guys who I saw absolute smash it at this years Green Meadows Festival, to once again round off what has been another very enjoyable 25 days of music, these guys are, Utah Saints.

Tim and Jez have been there and pretty much done the lot. They've had a handful of top 10 releases, played around the world and they've supported some of the very biggest artists on the planet. We're super pleased they accepted our advent invitation and they've put together on hell of a party piece that features 12 of their very favourite tracks from 2016. If this mix wasn't already enough to liven up your Christmas day evening, we can spread further good news and announce that Utah Saints are heading back into the studio in 2017 and are planning on releasing a new batch of floor filling bangers of their own.

BadboE is a truecore musichead born in Denmark in 1980. Located in the northern part of Denmark, where the weather always suxx, which gives BadboE a good excuse to sit in his music lab throwing pumpin' beats at his 18" bass sound system all day long. BadboE�s primary music inspirations come from the oldskool funk productions from the late 60s and the 70s. Like many other breakbeat artists, this musical legacy is where BadboE dig in to bring new life by cutting and mixing the pieces into new danceable songs. The specialty has become sophisticated mixing of old funk samples with 80s rap vocals and hooks. BadboE started out making music in the mid 90s - doing mainly euro hardcore techno, but soon found out that his real passion and fascination was for breaks and bigbeats. After trying out just about everything in the electronic music genre from - house, trance, club, happy hardcore to drum&bass, triphop and Breakbeat the conclusion was that funky breakbeat is what he does best. So now BadboE pretty much combined it all into one with an emphasis on breaks, which has become the BadboE-style. 

In 2006 BadboE formed his own digital recordlabel together with his fellow musician Wiccatron called Breakbeat Paradise Recordings (BBP Recordings). The goal with the label was to ensure faster access to the market as well as open doors for some of the great artists that are doing funky breaks. Since then the nu funk scene has come to live and the BBP label is set to be one of the digital leaders in this genre. 

BadboE has been keeping busy releasing his unique flavour of b-boy funk and uptempo partyfunk on his own label and on various other labels. After releasing a few vinyl records in 2007 - the debut EP: "Loose Your Funky Self" and a remix by Break The Box called "Walk out Laughing" the successful EP "Dynamite/Nothing But the Funk" was released in Oct 2008 with remixes from All Good Funk Alliance! This was followed by the successful 4-track Good Groove 11 vinyl that managed to stay at the no. 1 spot on the breakbeat chart for several months. A lot or remixes has been coming out on various labels and they have all contributed to settling BadboE�s name in the funky breakbeat scene. In 2008 BadboE got active as a live DJ playing at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and at the electronic Boom festival in Portugal as well as other local gigs. 

BadboE's music is going in 2 directions - the first is making funky breaks and trippy lounge breaks without using uncleared samples (material to release commercially) and the other is for the scene mixing, breaking and bootlegin' with the oldskool funk tunes. In the upcoming years BadboE will focus on getting his music out there with a full length album coming out in 2009 as well as touring the world with his funky partyrocking DJsets. Stay tuned...
