A mix of indie rock and melancholy surf rock, “Searchers” rides a drum groove like a wave, topped by clean guitar and rhythmic piano. The soft vocals discern a fine line between trying to make a living and trying to make music. It is no surprise that the song was written during a time that serves a great filter for bands and musicians. There is a sense of impatience and angst in the singer’s voice, which serves to answer some of life’s greatest challenges while still inevitably accepting the outcome.

Remaining consistent with their unique vocal harmonies and vintage western-rock sound, Bad Mother Nature’s “Excuses” ironically justifies things like laziness and alcoholism with the tired reasoning of someone who’s lost all motivation to justify their pitfalls. It talks of love as a “dangerous game” and emphasizes the ceaseless push and pull of relationships. Hazy vocal swells saturate the song and add to the theme of losing one’s way in a fog of constant excuses.

“Now You’re Gone”, the third single from Sacramento rock group Bad Mother Nature, is an exploration of loss, regret, and the disillusions of love. Utilizing a softer pop-sensibility than their usual rock pacing, this song takes its time, leaving room to breathe between the band’s signature harmonies and singer Ryan Allred’s pleading lead vocals. The piano stomps along a bouncing drum groove and intermingled guitar licks, creating warmth that compliments the lyrical undertones of fond memories lost to time.
	Following glowing reviews of their first two singles of 2022 - “Hawks, Doves and Gamblers” and “Excuses” - “Now You’re Gone” debuts as somewhat of an outlier for a band who got their chops playing heavy rock in clubs and bars. From their upcoming EP “A Thousand Days of Desert Rain and Madness”, this batch of singles follows more closely a line of Americana and country-rock that digs into a bag of songwriting previously unexplored by the up-and-coming group. “Now You’re Gone” was recorded and produced alongside the renowned Sacramento drummer Kevin Prince and is set to release in early 2023.

Now You're Gone

Bad Mother Nature delivers a swaggy rocker in “Paint Me,” their fourth single from their upcoming EP. This head-bobber begs to add color to life when the same old routine loses its luster. Relationships, jobs and dreams can all feel stagnant at times, and this song yearns for vibrancy where it’s lost. Stomping piano, a groovy guitar rhythm and a fat drum beat combine for one of the band’s more upbeat songs from their latest project.

A Thousand Days

Time to Run is an energetic American Rock tune built around a rapid-fire, finger-style guitar melody. It incorporates punchy bursts of falsetto vocals during the verses, while the smooth and catchy choruses pull the song back into order. The quickness of the guitar licks give an impending sense of urgency that culminates in a slow and powerful chorus breakdown at the end of the song. The rockabilly solo that traverses the middle echoes the classic twang of early bluegrass and country-blues guitar playing.

Rest of me is a thumper of a rock song reminiscent of the tribal rhythms of The Doors. The whole band rides the beat like a freight train through an open desert, as the vocals tell a story of man who lost his soul and insists on finding it. The beauty of the song comes in the small but intricate changes in the music over seemingly unrelenting drums and hazy guitar wails, while the chorus breaks down into a heavy half-time swing.

Rest of Me

This relentless rock tune is Bad Mother Nature’s 6th and final single of 2020. It’s a blistering riff-rock epic that incorporates vocal harmonies over velvety guitar tones, grooving piano, and even talk-box. The song ends with a melting guitar solo over an agonizingly slowed down rhythm section, while the talk box screams "Oh, let me in!" underneath it all.

At the Gates of Olympus

Mad Oklahoma is Western-Rock fusion, built upon tight rhythm guitar over a modern drum groove, and vocal harmonization throughout the entire song. Bass and piano follow suit, as well as a barrage of other instruments like harmonica, ocarina and castanets. Its sound is inspired by the thematic Spaghetti Western scores made famous by composers like Ennio Morricone in the mid 60s, as well as folk rock of the same era by artists like Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Eagles, and Neil Young.

The song is an allegory of change, and of loss. To leave a place that’s desolate and lacks further nourishment - wether of love, of time, or place. Mad Oklahoma is whatever the listener wants it to be. The universal symbol of knowing when it’s time to move on.

Bad Mother Nature is a four-piece rock band from Sacramento, CA. Fronted by singers Ryan Allred and Axel Ahrens, the band has a unique and diverse sound, often ranging from Folk Rock and Americana to Indie and Hard Rock. Ahrens and Instrumentalist Corey Allred cycle between bass and guitar, while Jon McCann’s signature drum style provides the group with their consistent character. Since their formation in the summer of 2016, the band has been steadily grinding away in west coast clubs, dive bars and festivals, refining their energetic live performance by balancing their driving guitar-riffs and nuanced, progressive piano. 

With several regional tours to their name, and three albums under their belt, the group has begun to make a name for themselves.
