Thanks Flow Music for the invitation to participate in one of our most favourite Podcast Series. We always enjoy this series of so much and feel really honored to be part of this. In the beginning of the year we were working on some new tracks and integrated two of them into the mix: they will be released this year on Down and on Kamai music.

Playing DISTRIKT at Burning Man is always an incredible pleasure, but this year was particularly special with the camp at the 10 o’clock corner. The view of the open playa, art cars gliding past, and mini dust tornadoes swirling around created a unparalleled backdrop to open that Wednesday for the Distrikt x Robot Heart link up — elegantly highlighting our vibrant Burning Man community. Big thanks to Distrikt and everyone who was there with us — can’t wait for the next one! )’(

Zach Walker - DISTRIKT - Burning Man 2023

"Imagine if you will a place where all that should be really is... The living embodiment of a consciousness lift."

The closing of Mensch Meier in December 2023 was a symbolic happening in the Berliner scene. With its inclusive mindset, it was one of Berlin's most renowned clubs. This is why its re-opening by the owners as Abstrakt represented a huge victory for the scene and city itself. A celebration I've had the privillege to be part of by playing a dj set from on saturday night / sunday morning from 2:00 to 4:00.

This set was truly one for the books, and I very much enjoyed playing a bit faster and stronger than my usual sound. Keeping the flow throughout the set was pretty challenging for me though, as I mostly played spontaneously and I often simply didn't know what to play next. But, in the end, this only added to how special that night turned out to be. The renovated Lichtung (formerly known as Räuberhöhle) is terrific! I didn't know they had rebuilt the floor for the opening, and when I saw it my excitement went through the roof <3

 This time, I've managed to record the crowd as well, so you can hopefully feel what I am talking about. Happy listening (:

3 weeks holiday in the Philippines, after wonderful days in the sea diving or sunbathing on the beach, we came to Nacpan Beach. Here I knew immediately that would be the location for the set. So the evening before recording, I started looking for suitable tracks for the location. The next day the time had come and the set was created at 32° on the beach in blazing sun. I hope you enjoy listening and feel the vibe <3

BCCO Podcast 380 is very special one. Today we are honoured to have electronic music pioneer Steve Rachmad aka STERAC with us with a two-hour set that was recorded live for promoter 01366 at the White Hotel in Manchester, UK.

Steve has used a range of aliases over his career reflecting his diverse outputs covering dub, disco and house. But STERAC’s focus has always been on the no-nonsense, darker, and deeper side of techno and this set is no exception to that.

BCCO Mix Series 380: Sterac

From London’s inner suburbs comes this next guest, a through and through veteran of UK techno whose touch has left a lasting mark on the world around him. Steve Bicknell’s early days were spent in the intoxicating worlds of dub, reggae, acid, DIY warehouse parties and pirate radio, an auspicious mix of references that would inspire him to make music of his own. After a string of residencies at the UK’s then most influential parties, he launched his own series with creative collaborator Sheree Rashit: LOST. These legendary gatherings brought together names like Plaid, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Robert Leiner, Basic Channel, and a wider array of future techno hegemons. This was swiftly succeeded with the duo’s launch of imprint Cosmic Records, whose triumph went on to spawn another three successors: LOST (early provider of Bicknell’s dancefloor sounds), Clubtracks (for Chicago-leaning fare) and ID(entity) (a channel for the work of well established music-makers who wanted to release under a secret alias). A nine-year pause in productions came to a halt in the mid 2010s with Steve’s most recent label, 6dimensions, an exploration in sound and the whole spectrum of human emotion. Finally, 2017 saw Steve team up with Luke Slater and David Sumner under the LSD sobriquet, a force for the creation of ‘lysergic machine music’, heavily danceable stuff (just ask ADE, Dekmantel, Awakenings). With a story as full and enduring as Steve’s there’s much to pull from, and only experience in the flesh could attest to the depth and scope of his musical evolution, but it’s clear that the voice he has honed has only become louder and more refined. It’s a techno that’s fully embodied, a blistering percussive barrage that invokes something profoundly human and fundamental. Bassiani Podcast 217 is just a taste of what Steve has to offer, a window onto a world of sound he’s meticulously crafted for over three decades: masterfully layered and piercing sounds that shimmer and relentlessly rise in lockstep with a formidable 4/4 beat.

In February of 2024, I had the massive pleasure of traveling to Montreal. Quebec, and play on what is one of the best sound systems in North America, if not the world, at Stereo Montreal.

As a DJ and a sound engineer, this was an extra special treat for me, and I pulled out all the stops for my 4 hour opening set. Have such a perfectly tuned system at my fingertips was a rare treat, and the music just flowed effortlessly. Enjoy the journey, and leave me a comment!

Today marks the 20th year anniversary of Balance 006 mixed by Anthony Pappa. Needless to say, it’s a chapter which holds a special place in the Balance story. 

In the years between Anthony's breakout year in 2000 and his Balance mix in 2004, the progressive scene underwent many transformations—shifting from more trance-y sounds to tribal house rhythms, and dark atmospheres, eventually incorporating melodic progressive breaks. With Anthony’s trademark harmonic mixing on full display, this compilation skilfully captured the evolving landscape and showcased Anthony’s musical range in impeccable style.

With it’s borderline spiritual take on progressive breaks, it still sounds as fresh as it did 20 years ago. For Anthony, it stands out as a unique entry in his discography:

A true pioneer of the techno scene, Italian DJ and producer Gaetano Parisio needs no introduction but we'll just underline that since his first steps in the then-burgenoning electronic world back in 1992, his influence on the sound hasn't flinched one bit. Responsible for countless seminal releases on the likes of Primate, Zenit, Mosaic, his own structures Conform, ART and Southsoul and a myriad more, Gaetano has been pushing techno in new directions with ultimate drive and devotion to duty. Clocking in with a two-hour trip into his boundary-pushing headspace, the Neapolitan maestro treats us to a wild ride of trampling uptempo funk, sci-fi-indebted flights and further alien-engineered heaters. The forward-looking power of rave in its purest expression.

If the first mix is the spiritual and centered friend you'll happily introduce to your parents, CD 2 is the kid your parents warned you about—the one who smoked cigarettes at school. It's a devilishly hard mix to deny, an adventurous ride through some of the dankest tech-prog the 2004 circuit had to offer.

Back then, this was the sound of the clubs. "It was that kind of style, you know, the late-night, after-hours vibe, like Twilo," Anthony recalls. The NY club was renowned worldwide for its pristine sound system and pure clubbing experience. "I had a monthly residency there, and the music on mix 2 featured that same kind of intoxicating, immersive vibe."

Finally my first studio mix in 8 months, feels like it’s been forever!

This features a walk through some of the sounds that have caught my ear the last few months, touching on a few different styles and feelings.

I had recently spent some time in Barcelona, observing terrazzo style flooring with shells set within polished concrete. This felt like an apt metaphor for this DJ mix, where each track is an ornamental shell, helping support a greater polished purpose.

There's something incredibly special about the world renowned Stereobar in Montreal. The sound, the staff, the dancer: it all come together to provide a high quality experience to everyone involved. I had the chance to play and blend music styles for 5 hours that night, and here are the last 3,5 hours. From acid to house to indie to italo to dico to techno, we covered it all. That night still lives in my head as one burst of hedonism fuelled by music, joy and being present in the moment, thanks to the no-phone policy.

The sound artist's unique touch as a musician is heard by how he captures warm, celestial vibes filled with airy atmospheres together with delicate rhythms and tells a melancholic story fused with ghostly, low slung cuts that are rich with nuance and subtlety.

More Background:

Every year in late July, 200+ friends from around the world converge in a Valley in Vermont for PYNK.

There are two primary venues for music across the four-day weekend: The Creek and the Cabin. 

The Creek is a grassy venue that sits just atop a beautifully shady, rock-strewn brook.  

It's not every day you can play an amazingly well-tuned d&b sound system to dancers frolicking in and out of the water as sunbeams shine through the trees.

I hope you enjoy this set, which was one of my highlights of Summer 2024 so far!
