J. Mono twists our sense of time again, coming up with the third installment of his ‘Redate’ series: an elegant selection of uncut tracks, roaming in the fields of electro, acid, IDM and EBM. Redate III in its digital format presents tracks that were written and recorded between 2014 and 2015. As the cassette version, it includes not only Redate III (as side A), but a collection of J. Mono’s various other tracks created between 2017 and 2021, that appeared beforehand on various compilation albums (as side B). In other words, with this fresh new tape you’re all set with 8 years of J. Mono experience.

Redate III has a collection of 12 tracks that were all born in the mid 2010s. They are quick and ambitious tracks with usually a fast pace, ready to action and not afraid of melodic or rhythmic complexities. These raw edits usually tell us a discourse of a few key musical elements, constantly intertwined with each other: winding basslines and beats, wandering pads and leads. Never longer than 3 or 4 minutes, they focus on precise and rapid variations of sonic ideas that are full of heart, akin to compositions we know as bagatelles, sonatinas or études from previous centuries.

The twelve tracks are spot on understandings of what intuitive, energetic yet sensitive electronics can mean in the 21st century. Sweet melodies, acidic vibes and dreamy echoes dominate the record while dirty, muddy and distorted sound waves are also eager to take over the course.

Redate III offers a range of impressions and moods, where each track captures one very specific emotional moment. Melancholic and passionate tunes, frantic rhythms and delicate harmonies at work: electrified gnossiennes, beat-driven gymnopédies in 40 minutes.

Montreal's Parts Project brings the next release on Juncture Music with his Dreamerz EP. Leveraging the practical limitations of performing with a simple live hardware setup, he finds new ways of breathing energy and movement into the experience, while remaining connected with his audience. Exploring this challenge and finding new techniques has been the foundation of Parts Project, all of which can be heard on this EP.

These pieces are more melodic than his previous work. They were first constructed with melody and mood, with the rest built around that. They are reflective and nostalgic, tracing the isolated, urban experience, while maintaining an uncompromising energy throughout.

Premiere: Hyenah - Usuthu Feat. B'utiza  (Mr Raoul K Remix)

Following a double dose of newfound Los Angeles talent, Apron Records founder, Steven Julien (aka Funkineven) returns home with the debut release from London-based enigma, Molinaro.

APRON 35 is classic Apron Records material; five slabs of soul-drenched techno anchored by groove and grit from a new name with plenty of experience. Molinaro — who has honed his production and DJing craft for over a decade — is one of the capital's best technicians behind the decks. A skill most recently recognised by NTS Radio, who rewarded him with a regular monthly slot on the airwaves. The first of which shot straight into the NTS Picks for the week.

Opener "GIO" cements the tone from the off, drifting in with warm, enveloping pads, quickly joined by beefy drums and percussion in a five-minute sprawl out. "JTL" is arguably the standout; a boogie-influenced roller aimed at prime time dancefloor. "TY" and "MOLOW" showcase the deeper, moodier face of Molinaro's sound palette before the beatless “SOFAR" rounds things out, paying homage to Ryuichi Sakamoto's synth brilliance.

London-based duo Silk 86 line up their first release on Shall Not Fade with 'The Other Side' EP, featuring a soaring house remix by Mall Grab.

Since emerging in 2013, Silk 86 have released a collection of quality 12", including a pair of highly sought after EPs through Manucci's Mistress and their own Emotive imprint. Now they look to further showcase their sound profile of groovy, disco infused jams with three more deep and soulful dancefloor bombs.

Forehard - Rhythm Device taken from VA - Vortex Traks X (VTX010)

Forehard is the bossman of the recently launched Inceptum Records. 'First Four' is the label's initial release which is a beautiful EP with Detroit influences all produced by Forehard himself. The last copies of the limited blue pressing are available directly from the label. Apart from his solo productions Forehard's work has been heard on The Guide Girls project, who were featured on a Vortex Traks VA compilation a few years back.

Rhythm Device has a raw hardware jam kind of vibe and it's already supported by Dave Clarke.

Originally hailing from the Dutch eastern border, Utrecht-based producer Tala Drum Corps (real name Tijmen Lohmeijer) provides BAKK six tracks where his love for futurism and nostalgia collides. Coming from an adolescence of modern dance, Lohmeijer continually seeks a sense of bodily movement in his work - an elementary scenic approach that stems from an urge to bring imagination into life. Ditching outer ends where club tracks are often approached too seriously or ironic, this mini-album takes on another route that feels mature while simultaneously oozing a child-like joy. 

On Parade, the listener strolls along a shimmering motley landscape.

Slowly slipping away in a crystal vortex via its vocal, ’Clear Fall’ shows the art of juxtaposition when its panning drums propel the track straight against its own gravity. Setting the tone for exploration, ’Refraction-S’ provide calm pace with its crisp gridlocked snares and melodic sonar pulses. Continuing a path of hypnotism, the album takes a deep plunge with ‘Lake Technium’ - whose rolling acid line hints to the essence of rave without obvious tendencies. On the flip side, ‘Frog Marches’ recalls emotions strongly akin to the LP opener, but walking a darker introvert thread. Spacious drum programming flutters around a haunting ambience on ’Sp00n’ - showcasing Lohmeijer’s ability to create intricate ear-worm structures. The producer offers an energetic closure with the break-inspired club tool ‘Modernity (Poisoned)’. 

All in all, Parade makes up a multifaceted play that appreciates sonic aesthetics of the recent past but re-appropriates those in a daring and dreamy context.

Fully immersive into a beautiful abyss from the very beginning, it brings to mind a cosmic exploration of an inhabited space probe - a swaying journey through endless icy soundscapes filled with distant flickering, and technogenic soothing.
