wrote this about a show I adore called The Sink: A Sleep Aid! hope you enjoy <3

Once upon a time, atop a nest built of brick
in a land where the rain fell like ash from the sky,
a princess — a girl — was kept in
by the pigeons who promised to teach her to fly. 
They sang to her in harmony
and wrapped her a cocoon of their own feather-down, 
but she couldn’t sing along, you see,
for the water they poured in her mouth kept her bound.

She couldn’t even scream when the fire drowned them out

A storm from the roof, they jumped out, fleeing skyward,
but the princess’s wings burned to nothing but straw. 
Drowning in smoke, as the fire subsided,
all she could recall was the warmth of its song. 

A broken thing, a hand reaching in vain
for a council of birds who had gathered to mourn
a husk, too cracked to be saved,
so they watched as the rain came to swallow her form. 
But there on the breeze came her savior in armor,
clad in black feathers and wide open eyes. 
Drawn to the whisper of ashes and embers,
you must have felt it as keenly as I. 

They jumped from the roof, hand in hand, fleeing skyward,
they flew and they swore that they’d never return. 
Breathing the smoke, oh, they felt it was right,
and they knew, when they got away, they’d finally burn.
 
You and I are the only ones who hear it,
the only ones who know,
how we’ll be warm and dry and singing to the best song in the world. 
Cause that’s the happily ever after, that’s the way the story goes

But the little bird jumped right back out, in the end,
wings trailing damp as she stumbles along. 
She’s trying to drown out the music, but I’ll find her again. 
And we’ll finish the story,
we’ll finish the song.
