Bottletop is a dynamic UK-based charity supporting health education initiatives worldwide. This is the first in a series of albums from the charity featuring rare world music remixed by leading DJs and producers. Funds raised through these releases will support Bottletop projects in both Africa and the UK.

In just two years, Bottletop’s dynamic approach to charity has generated the support of leading recording artists and political figureheads from around the world ranging from Justin Timberlake and Dido to Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton.

Bottletop’s first campaign in association with British fashion house Mulberry generated funds in excess of £250,000.
The music in this release is primarily from Ghana and Nigeria, with some dating back as early as the 1960s. It has been remixed by internationally renowned DJs and producers such as Paul Oakenfold, Adam Freeland and Quantic. It is available as a 2 disc set: originals and remixes.

RNT co-head JKriv does it up royal here with a bit of old and a bit of new. On the A side “The Queen On Her Throne” is one of J’s seminal reworks in all of its 8 min glory, and although names have been changed to protect the innocent, a bomb by any other name is still a bomb! On the flip, a lesser known West African 70’s jam by Oscar Sulley & The Uhuru Dance Band is worked up into a raucous jazzy afro-house stomper in “Bukom Mashie (JKriv Edit)” Plus there’s a the stripped down beats-n-synth-apella  of “Queen’s Beats,” perfect for mixing with the OG or played on it’s own!

Terre et air sont convoqués dans chaque grand messe des Balaphonics, faisant écho aux racines africaines de leur musique que l’on retrouve par la place centrale qui est accordée au balafon.
Autour de cet instrument traditionnel africain, c’est un brassband complet qui s’est déployé à travers les rêves de ces musiciens.
Dans le domaine des airs : une section vent soudée depuis plus de dix ans aux sons de la world, du funk, et du jazz infuse au public des mélodies percutantes et des improvisations cathartiques.
Sur terre : percussions, batterie, balafon et guitare déroulent un tapis de groove puisant dans le highlife, le bikutsi ou le mandingue, autant de rythmes, pour autant de pas de danses.

Sur scène, ce qui caractérise cette machine bien huilée c’est la diversité et la fraîcheur des compositions.
Doté d’une aisance scénique invitant le public à la transe, la musique des BALAPHONICS s’expriment à travers des pas de danses spontanés, un réel esprit d’équipe et un dresscode lumineusement vintage.
Le son Balaphonics est porté par 9 musiciens dévoués, élevés à la musique de rue comme aux grandes scènes de festivals. Le groupe et la scène entrent en fusion, et tel un volcan en éruption projettent sur la foule toute leur énergie dans un bain de folie.
