'Oh Walter' is the debut EP from Bristol based barfly Septimus Wilkinson. Recorded in houses and flats with long time collaborator Stuart Cullen (aka Pilote), the songs acutely capture the absurdity and beauty of trying to navigate the modern world with ancient sensibilities and a mild hangover. Title track, "Oh Walter" is an ode to the music of the late Walter Becker. His music told stories of New York with a universal feel that allowed the listener inhabit the world of small time hustlers with big dreams and in this vein, Septimus invites you to join him on board the "Chinese Train". Inspired by a whirlwind trip across China in 2010, soaring melodies and cut-and-paste style lyricism convey a sense of awe and confusion that only a mad trip with friends can bring. "Sing For The Old Time" is one of the few modern pop songs that isn't about the jelly inside pork pies. Our seemingly benign subject caught between systemic horror and the golden pastry of life. A complicit victim, tuning into talk radio in a tin foil hat. The EP closes with "Rust and Tin" where the train carriage is switched for the spaceship and the destination is the journey itself.
