Argy & Mama - Recluse (Hot Since 82 Remix)

Nuno dos Santos’ boutique label SoHaSo (shorthand for Something Happening Somewhere; although, sadly the same can no longer be said of Trouw) has been cruising steadily for the best part of two years now, but "Tonii" might just be the best thing committed to wax yet. Love Over Entropy's 12m original is sturdy with bright flourishes throughout, forever climbing and searching without resolve; techy without, y'know, being techy. 

This retouch comes from none other than Innervisions' main man, although  less overtly lovelorn than we've come to expect. He  twists the lead melody into something resembling a steel pan drum, backed by laser-guided synths pinging all around: a festival-sized breakdown held just at the precipice, never fully cresting. Dixon, you big tease.

With their second single release from their longplayer "Connected", AKA AKA & Thalstroem invite the singer Jim Hickey into the studio. With his soulful, almost fragile voice Hickey weaves a sound carpet of emotions on the complex beat of AKA AKA & Thalstroem which, with his reduced tempo, builds up an enormous groove until the break. When the guitar play of Thomas Moked unfolds to an inspirational source of harmonies, Hickey's voice starts the prelude to the ecstatic climax of the song.
Dan Caster's remix takes many elements of the original, forces up the tempo and clearly shows that it's meant for the dancefloor. While using the original vocal Caster puts it on a high pitch on the middle part, giving it a serious recognizability; Teenage Mutants divergs quite a bit more from the original and concentrates on his crystal clear bassline and concise drums, which are broken up through spacy layers and wide opening synths and even while having a 4-to-the-floor mix, give time to dream and flow with the music.

The sound is analytic and emotional melodic at the same time and when the break is coming you’re hooked. “Go-Sig-Nu“ is the name of the three tracker and in every song you’ll find the old school techno vibe you need for the dark club season.

Next up on our premiere series is Kris Davis' debut release on Crossfrontier Audio called 'Interlude.' Kris, who has also been on GD's podcast series, delivers yet another tight sound through his original 'Interlude.'
