Silencia is the latest collection of evocative and lustrous compositions by the Nashville duo Hammock. The band’s 10th LP, Silencia closes a trilogy that began with 2017’s Mysterium. It is a balm, gesturing at the healing that can ascend in silence. Slow-churning and contemplative, Silencia most prominently features strings orchestrated by Viktor Orri Árnason (Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds), mists of guitar by Hammock’s Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson, the hushed drone of horns, and 20 elegiac voices from the Budapest Art Choir. The record was mixed and mastered by Francesco Donadello (Winged Victory for the Sullen, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ben Frost) in Berlin. Founded in 2003, Hammock’s music has appeared widely in film and television, and it has been praised by The Wire, NPR, Pitchfork, The Atlantic, and other major culture media. -Ryan Burleson

20 years of Pop Ambient. Already? One didn’t notice. It’s an anniversary which comes quietly. An anniversary with quiet tones. In the spirit of the special restraint of pop-elegance, it has no reason to drawn attention to itself with a big „Tam-Tam“. Or better: „Bum-Bum“. The bass drum stays outside. Nevertheless, in fast-paced, overstimulated times of moving forward, it’s a joyful occasion to look back. What strikes most by putting or listening to 20 years of pop ambient in a row is the central theme that holds together the dense aesthetic concept like the pearls of a necklace. Floral beauty for digital naturalists. Music like flowers, that don’t wilt. Timeless. Ageless.
But with all of the conceptual unity and resolution, Pop Ambient would not be Kompakt without the break, the friction, the expansion of musical boundaries in between tradition and innovation, in between conspiracy and the openness of the discourse. Aestheticism, escapism, acting in the spirit of „nevertheless“. Swans drifting by, clouds pass over, everything is floating and: „Boredom is a stylistic device“ (Andy Warhol).

Pop Ambient Music is medicine against illnesses, that you don’t even suffer from. It’s giving everything, demanding nothing. Musical lotus leafs, off which the virtual wastewater of our time is rolling like the reality is dripping off the matrix. 

In this sense, we’re happy about the pop-ambient anniversary greetings from new and old companions like Thore Pfeiffer, Max Würden, Yui Onodera, Jörg Burger, Thomas Fehlmann, Morgen Wurde, Leandro Fresco aswell as contributions from T.Raumschmiere, Andrew Thomas and, after a long break, from friends from early days like Joachim Spieth, Markus Guentner und Klimek.

Pop Ambient 2020 is released digital, as CD and of course as a chic double vinyl. Also included in the package: The whole distinctive cover-series as an art book of 44 pages. And for all of the old and young fans and collectors there is the Pop Ambient 2001 in a overhauled original version out on vinyl for the very first time.

blaktone is back to Sincopat after their successful appearance in our BeenTouched series. Kepler Effect is the name of the EP including three original tracks by the talented duo from St. Petersburgh plus a solid by remix by techno heroes Teenage Mutants.
The opening track 'Definition of Love' is a crazy and organic burner that will leave the club completely devastated. It is a non-stop track where the sinister items and the hypnotic mood are presented in a perfect balance. Teenage Mutants takes the track to their perspective and offer another win that proves the talent of this German duo. 'Uma I' is also a huge bomb for the dancefloor with the surprising synth after the breakdown. 'Last Train' is a delicate piece that takes to the next level the vocal electronic music, and a proof of this is the fantastic closing with the Ambient Mix.

Marking the label’s 500th release, ‘Reflections Vol. 1’ features a handcrafted selection of 10 downtempo electronic cuts from the label’s biggest stars including Yotto and Lane 8, Anjunadeep breakout talents Qrion and Nox Vahn while welcoming new names PSBR, Kitput and Vár Sofandi into the fold.

‘Reflections Vol. 1’ presents a selection of new and exclusive electronic tracks, ranging from the piano-led melodies of Yotto’s ‘Maggio’, Deep 08 favourites Lane 8’s ‘Apes & Children’ and Croquet Club’s ‘Slow Mo’, both seeing a long awaited full release, alongside fresh ambient contributions and label debuts from Germany’s Kitput, London-based multi-instrumentalist PSBR and Finland’s Vár Sofandi.

He has been a Café del Mar artist since 2003, with more than 20 CDM compilation releases under the belt, compiling and mixing 3 Café del Mar albums. Gelka is famous for delivering floating musical journeys, beautifully curated mixtapes, and a debut album "Less Is More" on Nightmares On Wax's Wax On Imprint. With two albums, Gelka has over 20 million streams on Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube. His mashups and re-edits are amongst the top listened to mixtapes on Mixcloud with more than 62K followers.

In late 2018 Gelka teamed up with Forteba, an electronic synth inspired music producer. He is known for his deep electronic and melodic atmospheric LPs through the legendary German Plastic City and Kompakt. Banco De Gaia has been performing and releasing for over 25 years now, along the way becoming one of the music industry’s most maverick innovators. His legacy is as glittering as it is diverse, ranging from Hollywood film sound credits to the critically acclaimed ‘Last Train to Lhasa’, first released in 1995 to a rapturous reception. His live act still packs out venues and festivals all over the world, with audio-visual performances renowned for their explosive, cutting edge quality: from sampling wizardry fused with haunting vocals and poignant acoustics to genre-hopping musical instrumentals, all accompanied by socially engaged visuals.

Behind Banco de Gaia is artist Toby Marks. Starting out as a drummer in a metal band, he began using sampling kit to cut his own tunes after falling in love with electronica during the 1980s acid house era. By the early 90s, after winning respect for a clutch of credits on the Ambient Dub compilations, he was signed to Planet Dog Records and released ‘Maya’, in 1994, and then ‘Last Train to Lhasa’, in 1995.

Both albums featured an artfully arranged cocktail of textured samples and live instrumentals lifted from across the world. Both went straight to No. 1 in the UK Independent Charts as well as sweeping through the international electronica scene, making him, along with the likes of The Orb, one of the early pioneers of ‘chill out’. Both ‘Last Train to Lhasa’ and ‘Heliopolis (Eudopolis Dog Mix)’ notably featured on Sasha & Digweed's classic ‘Northern Exposure’ mix CD among myriad other compilations. 

Since then, he's released a further 6 studio albums, 1 live album, 1 live DVD and 15 EP’s and also runs his own label, Disco Gecko Recordings. He went back to basics in 2014 with a sold-out 20th Anniversary CD-only (no streams or downloads available) release of ‘Maya’, followed by similar 20th Anniversary editions of ‘Last Train to Lhasa’ in 2015 and ‘Live at Glastonbury’ in 2016.

Pink Floyd and psychedelia remain a constant influence: Banco’s cover of Echoes in 2007 helped shape the ‘Memories, Dreams, Reflections’ collection in 2009 and Floyd’s legendary saxophonist Dick Parry was one of Marks’ special guest collaborators (alongside no-man’s Tim Bowness and Zero 7’s Sophie Barker) on his ‘The 9th of Nine Hearts’ album, which came out in October 2016.

“A continuation of the consistently high form Toby Marks has shown throughout a long and illustrious career” (Total Music Magazine), The Crack described ‘The 9th of Nine Hearts’ as full of “dubby loveliness that fuses psych, spiky rock, acid and ambient” while the Ambient Music Guide hailed it as “Banco's strongest album of new material in 15 years”.
