Jamaal ‘AFIZHU’ Wells may rep the Poconos, the area code ‘570’ but his life has been far from a vacation. After losing three of his best friends to gun violence before hitting puberty, AFIZHU learned early on to pour his anguish into poetry. Growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey, he remembers watching his mother sing in the choir and his grandfather lead a gospel group ‘The Rugged Cross Singers.’ Though those influences were strong, the call of the streets was too loud for him to avoid. By the age of 18, he was committing everything from petty theft to assault and eventually got slapped with multiple DUIs, which resulted in a five-year jail sentence. 

With the support of his mother, AFIZHU was able to forgo the five-year bid by enrolling into a 15-month Christian based program called Teen Challenge that taught him about spirituality and forgiveness. ‘I didn’t have any clue or direction prior to this program … I discovered there was a void that needed to be filled and a big part of my inspiration is finding God,’ AFIZHU remembers.  In a twist of fate, he was also chosen to be a part of a gospel rap group ‘Teen Challenge Disciples,’ where he wrote rhymes, shared his testimony, and performed in front of hundreds of people every month. It was during this time within the program that he re-discovered his love for poetry and lyrics.

Literally, music saved AFIZHU’s life and redirected his focus to the passion he’s always had within. ‘I never disconnected from the music or my pen,’ recalls AFIZHU. With a world-altering move from Jersey to the Poconos, AFIZHU’s mom stepped in to manage her son and give him the support to take a leap of faith that would jumpstart his career.

Within the last three years, AFIZHU has been focused on putting the Poconos on the map. He performed as an opening act for the Stop the Violence tour and has opened for national acts like Young MA, Vado, and Uncle Murda. And with tracks like ‘570,’ AFIZHU lets fans know that he’s here to stay. Currently, AFIZHU is readying his untitled EP that features the lead single ‘Too Extra.’ Defining his style as ‘commercially street,’ AFIZHU’s flow is a perfect blend of the streets mixed with the mainstream appeal that’ll grab the attention of hip hop fans across the country. 

With over a decade of rhymes, AFIZHU writes all of his own raps and is ready to take hip hop back to the foundation – raw and real lyrics that listeners can relate to. ‘I have a story to tell and this is what I was put here to do,’ he says confidently. And now that he’s put all the extra to the side, he’s ready to shine and show exactly why he’s AFIZHU…

There are some things independent artist Nova J’adore is shy about, but her music isn't one of them. When it comes to singing, rapping, and songwriting ,Nova holds nothing back. With her energetic, sassy, in-your-face attitude, she is a force to be reckoned with. "I'm all about empowering others to speak up and stand out " the triple threat says. "I want others to listen to my lyrics and realize they're not alone. I sing about what I've been through, what others might be afraid to speak up about. Music has always and will forever be an outlet for me".

It all began at the age of six . That was when Nova (Born Ashley Corbett) was drawn to the vocal stylings of Toni Braxton. " I just loved how soulful her voice sounded . How you could feel the connection between her voice and her emotions. That's when I realized I wanted to be a singer." Nova remembers. " 

Born to a military parent, Nova moved around quite a bit. While living in El Paso, Texas Nova competed and was selected to be a part of the 2004-2005 All region Choir. "I was so young but my voice is naturally deep but i competed as a soprano and got selected. Thats what surprised me!"  

After moving from El Paso during January of 2006 to Raeford, North Carolina, Nova participated in the school choir. It wasnt until 2008 during her Senior year project that she did her research. "For my project I told how to write and create great music in the music industry. I also explained what kind of research needed to be done in order to be successsful. Its not just talent that will get you in this industry. You have to have the hard work and the discipline behind you.I knew from the age of 6 that I wanted this, not for the fame , but to be heard. Its the only thing that has ever made me feel so complete. I just needed the perfect opportunity to show my talent but i knew at the age of 17, I wasnt ready."  

As fate would have it, On November 25th, 2015 , Nova J got the chance of a lifetime to open up for the one and only Monica for her Code Red Tour in Myrtle Beach at The House Of Blues. "I was so excited , Monica is one of the greats! I sung her songs all the time! So to open up for her was a complete Blessing" . Since then, Nova has found her niche as a dynamic rapper and singer .
