Many people simply want to hear and enjoy some great new music without having to waste time searching for hours. These Musical Discoveries collections aim to fulfil those needs. At least, we hope so! :)

This playlist is a compilation of the favourite musical discoveries of the Wud Records team from everything they heard at SoundCloud during February 2024.

Tracks have been arranged according to the number of plays at the precise moment of publishing, starting with the fewest. Tracks that are early in playlists tend to receive more plays than later tracks, and we feel that the ones with fewer plays need the best chance of exposure.

Why not promote your track on social media and watch it overtake the play counts on later tracks? Now there's a challenge!

This playlist is extremely eclectic, so if the track you are playing isn't quite doing it for you, try the next one. It will probably be completely different.

If you enjoyed listening to something here, please give it a like and a repost. Follow the artist. Give them a shoutout on social media. Check out some of their other tracks. Buy something from them and your support will help them to keep going. Doing any of this will help raise their profile. At the very least you might make their day. :)

Sharing is very, very important !!

Sharing is a massive help for independent artists. They don’t have big corporations and mainstream media saturating every channel with their product. Every independent share counts.

Giving something a ‘like’ is nice, but sharing exposes the artist to your followers. This means that anybody in your community can see and click on what you shared. They can potentially enjoy it as well. It enables somebody new to discover the artist and become their newest fan. You create the chance for that to happen.

February 2024 Discoveries

Intravenous is a very personal account of the internal and external battles we face when dealing with addiction. The darkness you live in after losing everything and the desperation we face when we wonder if we can be saved or are even worth saving.

Intravenous toys with the bands moody, synth based 80's influences such as Gary Numan and Mike Oldfield. Ballad- like in tone, yet brought into shadow by the poignant and personal story-telling. Rather than catapult you along like a roller coaster with no brake, Intravenous creeps around you, lifts you unknowingly, and slowly carries you away like an ebbing tide.

Al Shalliker is a singer-songwriter and musician from the city of Plymouth in England. The lead songwriter for Plymouth band Watershed, who were prolific live performers nationwide over a period of more than 20 years, Al is now producing music as a solo artist. His debut album, ‘Silver Linings’, released on 26th April 2021, features the two singles ‘Where all the Music Comes From’ and ‘The Voyage’.
 
Watershed’s early music was heavily influenced by reggae and soul but there was always a significant diversity to Al’s songwriting, which gave the band their own distinctive sound. Watershed self-produced their debut album, ‘Moves’, in 1995, which enabled them to secure a record deal. The two albums that followed, ‘Strange Days and Dynamite’ (2002) and particularly ‘The Eyes of Eli Wallach’ (2006), saw the band gradually take on more of a folk-rock style, again marked by the ingenuity of Al’s songcraft.
 
Al’s new solo album, ‘Silver Linings’, which is embellished by a number of guest musicians, features a fresh reworking of a few of his older songs but is mostly made up of previously unreleased new material. Influenced by the classic songwriters yet highly original, ‘Silver Linings’ is a powerful representation of Al’s inimitable style, made relevant for a 2021 audience.
 
‘Where All the Music Comes From’ released on 5th April 2021
 
‘Where All the Music Comes From’ is the opening track and first single from Al Shalliker’s 2021 debut solo album, ‘Silver Linings’. Although initially written a number of years ago, the song was completely reinvented for this project. Featuring hook-driven harmonica playing and layered with harmony, ‘Where all the Music Comes From’ is suggestive of the folk-rock scene of the late 1960s while viewing loss and the art of songwriting from more than one perspective.
 
 ‘The Voyage’ released on 23rd April 2021
 
‘The Voyage’ is the second single from Al Shalliker’s 2021 debut solo album, ‘Silver Linings’. An infectious alt-folk song with an evocative, modern narrative, ‘The Voyage’ relates to some of the difficulties we encounter as we journey through life.
