Inspired by the poem "The Peace of Wild Things" by the American poet Wendall Berry.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

The Lying Ape

I'm the ape who builds guitars
And makes kings sing on burning stars
I put atlas on a unicycle
And gave your lass a glass rifle

Men made a monument for man
And a mother's mouth went mute for months
Sister's smile sunk like sand
And shown the shallowness she shunned

Honesty wont sell in a free country
But a lie might get you far
So I grew the fakest tree
And the door I turned it into I left ajar

What's the devil gonna take from me?
I never had a soul to sell
Our maker didn't make us free
What's the devil gonna sell to me?
My soul is only bought for free
At least our maker didn't make us trees

I'm the ape in charge of banks
I make man starve for money's sake
The laws I wrote are mine to break
But this lie of mine makes my heart ache

But a lie will make you a star
So we all bought polyvinyl trees
And left no door ajar
