Ma for soprano and recorder

My new piece "Ma" was performed by the fantastic Danish recorder player Kirsten Aage and the singer Helle Thun on 24th of February 2019 in the beautiful museum Glyptoteket. 
"Ma" is a traditional Japanese unit of length, equal to six Japanese feet (shaku), however, in the musical term "Ma" means between, pause, gap or space among two structural parts. The pice was inspired by both Nordic folksongs and Japanese traditional music. We are traveling "between" the two different music in Nordic country and Japan.

テナーリコーダーとソプラノのための新作”Ma（間）”がコペンハーゲン市内にありますニュー・カールスベア美術館にて初演されました。まさに「間」というタイトル通り栗林秀明氏作曲の『絵夢』と吉沢検校氏作曲の『千鳥の曲』の二曲を繋ぐ「間（あいだ）」の作品として制作しました。
様々な意味を持つ「間」。直感的な時間感覚における「間」と、コントロールされた「間」が北欧の民族音楽と日本の雅楽の「間（あいだ）」を行き来します。
