This is from a work in progress.  There is a female vocal part plus some period percussion in the final piece, which is going to my mastering engineer tonight. I'll post that when it's ready, but in the meantime, I'm quite happy with this setting, and wanted to share it, as is.  Note that the modern flute (not the recorders) is playing what will be a harmony to the vocals starting in the second verse, and an "improvisation-like" line (which was very common in the period) in the following chorus.

TCL - Instrumental

For the last six or seven years, I've arranged, orchestrated, and performed a version of The Star-Spangled Banner, in honor of the Fourth of July. Most years, July 1 rolls around and I scream "Holy effing Holiday, Batman, I've got three days to do this thing," but this year, I've started early.
  Mostly, the arrangements are based on my memory of The Air Force Band's version that used to play on NYC TV stations at the beginning and end of each broadcast day (if you're too young to remember 6 AM- Midnight being the only hours for broadcast TV, ask your parents about it...) What I loved about that version was all the internal voice-leading and the fact that the last third of the piece was almost a chord-change-per-beat - it was in some ways part of what got me into music theory and arranging in the first place, at age six. That you could create this intricate tapestry of evolving chordal, magnificent brilliance, if you only knew how, was the key to my becoming a music composition major twelve years later.
Last year, I eschewed the Air Force style, and did a full string orchestra version, to celebrate moving my studio to a dual-server VEP7 system where memory and CPU constraints on my libraries no longer were a factor. This year, I've gone back to the Air Force motif, but with a new approach.
  Recognizing that in 2022, what we need most is "uplifting," tonight I finished this year's Anthem. Its focus is on size and weight, its goal is to be uplifting and hopeful and moving. The remarkable Air Force arrangement’s chord-change-per-beat in the last section is still present, but this year the focus is on the scope, not the voice-leading.
