Barbacoaj was born in 2008 mainly as a wedding & bar mitzvah performing band. Nonetheless it has been merging sounds from the cumbia, rock, cuarteto, Uruguayan murga, bachata and so on. As a result of that mixture it cames  a “non gender” which some like to call “bailongo inmigrante” —a  sort of wacky musical melting pot—.
Barbacoaj lines up with eleven musicians. The tight but groovy rhythmic section is “Nacho” Jauregui on drums, “Pini” Scheinkman on bass, Juan Riveros on keyboards, “Pollo” Lopez on electric guitar and the “one of a kind” Pablo Honigman on latin percussion. A stunning horns section; Florencia Urbani and Javier Rossi on bones, Jeremias Goñi on clarinet, Leandro Caruso on tenor sax and flute and Ariel Brukman on trumpet and flugelhorn. Last but not least, the Cicho’s lead vocals add character and attitude.
The band has played —and still does— at many hotels and lounges all around Argentina, cheering up weddings and bar mitzvahs with their jewish golden oldies show. It was also invited to many open air Jewish festivals like the “Rosh Hashana Urbano”, “Pesaj Urbano” and “Buenos Aires Celebra Kosher.”
After a fruitful creative period, they released a brand new album with all original songs called “Artistico” —spanish for artistic.— Since then, Barbacoaj has been playing at as many local pubs and leisure centers as there are in Buenos Aires and the suburbs.
The sound of the band takes you dancing and joying until you fall apart, their shows will blow your socks off, and their spicy lyrics spatter irony about Buenos Aires's white middle class daily life.
Barcacoaj is currently working on new material aiming to take their music and poetry to the highest performing stage.
