@moffandtarkin is back on Lagaffe Tales with a record that marks the 9th release in the Lagaffe series. The Austrian based Icelander provides two originals as well as a remix from label friend @uffeisaband.

The record starts off with Tension a break inspired banger with that special Moff & Tarkin twist. If you spot the sample let us know and you might win a coupon.

The second track "Socks By The Sofa" feels like something that would work wonders at your local bowling arena or even shopping mall, some piano samples and vocals, you know the drill.

The b side is dedicated to a massive Uffe remix, I tell you man, we had to write him back like 5 times and ask him to reduce that bass. Uffe takes Tension and turns it into a jungle journey a la Indiana Jones.

Kenny Glasgow has been a vital pillar in the Canadian electronic scene for 30+ years, pioneering a distinct sound on both the production and performance side. Through his work with Art Department, as well as his solo offerings over the years, Kenny’s trademark brand of techno has captured global plaudits for decades. Glasgow has carried the torch for the North American scene time & time again, and shows no sign of relenting.

Following his famed 2001 ‘Toronto Mix Session’ CD on Turbo, and his debut EP on the imprint ‘Mean Machine’ landing in 2020, we’re thrilled to welcome Kenny Glasgow back with the ‘Mind Under Control’ EP.

Leading the line is ‘Position Fatale’, a low-slung groover that harnesses an undeniable baseline hook and vicarious latin vocals. Defiant drum programming balances floaty synthetic rhythms, showcasing the distinctly diverse nature of Kenny’s studio flow. ‘Loco Juice’ brings crisp production to a spoken-word foray, while ‘Planet’ takes us to higher planes with masterful melodics. Handing over the controls to well-known figure of the German and Georgian electronic scenes in the persons of .VRIL and HVL, our next installment finds the pair laying down a quintet of hybrid electro and techno weapons that sends us straight back to the heyday of Rephlex and like-minded visionary ventures. All in that stark contrast between ethereal spaciousness and steely, martial rhythms out the industrial spectrum, ‘Far Field’ takes us on a voyage across the board, from breaks-heavy machine stunts to washed-out tapestries, via EBM-laced detours and junglistic maneuvers. Investigating the nexus zone between dance functionality and limitless escapology, it extrapolates both artists’ blends to further immersive, hypnotic effect. 

Taking over the A side, .VRIL gets the ball rolling with ‘Lost Together’, which sets the tone on a low-slung, nostalgia-drenched note; combining the syncopated swagger of downtempo techno with ambient-oid stasis and static-filled opacity. Like watching an all-metal sun sinking past the blazing skyline. Revving up the engines, ‘Fnord’ feat. RÆYN conjures up a way more muscular arsenal of big-room-ready wares, from aggro snare salvos to anthemic synth kinetics, through that replicant-hunting kinda vibe. One to have the Saturn rings go hula hoop, with all woofers and brains in the vicinity melting in XTC. Shutting the A side off, ‘We Believe’ returns to a lighter, more vaporous mindset but sure implements that signature heavy swing of .VRIL, flush with textured kicks and FX-soaked arps. True monster prog swell. 

Flip it over and there’s HVL dishing out a textbook example of his vortical electronic furls with the title-track, ‘Far Field’ - an oneiric drift that slowly rises from its heavy-lidded slumber, ascending towards bleepin’ n bloopin’ experimental effervescence as bars fly by. A number bound to hack your body and mind into two distinct facets, and while one dances its way frantically across the ever buzzing space/time continuum, the other shall reach a state of healing calm and transcending ubiquity. Smoothly shuttling us off to the upper layers of the ionosphere, ‘Lancet Mxi’ clenches it on a trippy note, taxiing us midway zero-G UK bass territories and eerie ambient abstraction. HVL’s total, widescreen vision at its most unhindered, all set at expanding your mind to yet uncharted horizons of sound and closing the gap between two distant, estranged galaxies. A fractured headspace to both dance and dream to.

Tibi Dabo returns to Crosstown Rebels with his second EP of the year The Distance We Share. His third EP will follow in the Autumn in advance of his debut album forthcoming in 2021. Globally revered American producer David Morales turns in two outstanding remixes that demonstrate contrasting aspects of his illustrious career.

The Distance We Share sees beautiful melodies standing both individually and combined to create an ethereal atmosphere. Starting with golden keys that drop into a twinkling lullaby, rising and falling throughout the track before ending with danceable energy. Komorebi opens with melancholic chords, the bassline moves at a relaxed pace over a rhythm of hi-hats and cowbell, sensual distorted vocals and delicate chimes induce a feeling of romance. The first remix of Komorebi from David Morales sees him add his legendary Red Zone stamp of New York influenced house music, building tension with darker tones, chugging percussion and hypnotic loops. On the Diridim Mix Morales turns the vibe to that of his newest label, with classic soulful electronics adding a deep sense of warmth.

Still in its infancy, the Tibi Dabo project from Max Guardans has seen his unique emotive take on electronic music and sound design catch the attention of influential figureheads. His debut release the Ende EP on Sasha's Last Night on Earth imprint demonstrating his remarkable talent. With his determined attitude and unrelenting thirst for exploration impressing respected tastemaker Damian Lazarus, he was immediately signed to Crosstown Rebels. His last two EP’s Her Moon and Disbelieve on the imprint, initiating a run of unrelenting form that marks the start of big things to come.
