That Mathias Kaden definitely knows how to put together a complete mix-cd, is clearly on display for the full-blooded DJ and house enthusiast with the 2011 compilation of the Groove CD number 40. For the 14th Watergate Compilation he bounds an edition with a key set on CD with timeless releases and evergreen classics united. These function just the same in the club on the banks of the Spree just as they would anywhere. Not least of all to thank are the three exclusive and unreleased tracks from Rodriguez Jr., Marco Resmann and Christian Burkhardt. These are finally available on vinyl and can be acquired via Freude Am Tanzen. Made for the club or the best festivals and open-airs of the summer. House without compromise and danceable happiness in a four x four gallop. In short, energizing and yet elegant just like the sets from Mathias Kaden himself.

Dass Mathias Kaden durchaus weiß, wie eine gelungene Mix-CD auszusehen hat, stellte der Vollblut-DJ und House-Enthusiast bereits 2011 bei der Zusammenstellung der Groove-CD Nummer 40 unter Beweis. Für die 14. Watergate-Compilation bannte er Ende vergangenen Jahres schließlich erneut ein schlüssiges Set auf CD, das zeitgemäße Releases mit immergrünen Klassikern vereint und so auch in einer Samstagnacht in dem Spreeufer-Club sowie überall sonst funktionieren würde. Nicht zuletzt dank der drei darauf befindlichen exklusiven und zuvor unveröffentlichten Tracks von Rodriguez Jr, Marco Resmann und Christian Burkhardt. Die gibt es nun endlich auch auf Vinyl, erhältlich über Freude Am Tanzen, gemacht für den Einsatz im Club oder auf den anstehenden Festivals und Open-Airs des Sommers. House ohne Kompromisse und tanzbares Glück im Vierviertel-Galopp. Kurzum energetisch und doch elegant, ganz so wie die Sets von Mathias Kaden selbst.

Following June's "[QR]V.172.TAM.24", featuring tracks by Avision, DJ Deep and Deetron, Laurent Garnier's COD3 QR label is back with another vinyl-only release.  This varied 6-pack, coded "[QR]V.200.SPK.24" is comprised of exclusive tracks from members of the extended COD3 QR family: Skatman, Works Of Intent, Yann Lean, and Joaquim Plossu & Salem Focus, alongside Jules Wells' "Dreamer" (released digitally on the label in May) and Squal G's "Waiting 4U" (from April).

Skatman, the Berlin based, Tunisian born DJ, producer and label head of Cognitive Prophecy follows up his huge COD3 QR track "Tribute to a Dancefloor" with the deep, groovy and aptly titled "Transcending House".  He has already gained recognition for his approach to electronic music, bridging the gap between classic and contemporary with tracks on Innervisions and Correspondent, becoming one of the most intriguing and captivating artists.

Jules Wells who delivered the infectious "The Clap" on COD3 QR 016 is back with the retro House sound of "Dreamer".  Jules Wells is from Bordeaux, France.  Strongly influenced by the Motor City, Jules has released on the likes of Submerge, Twilight 76, KMS, Planet E, Brique Rouge and Logos (Macedonia).

Works Of Intent, a core member of the UK South Asian collective DAYTIMERS and Emotional Weaponry label owner, has recently released an acclaimed guest mix for the legendary John Digweed's Transitions radio show.  Known for his ability to blend emotive storytelling with rhythmic precision, he follows up his "Richer Sound" album (released last year on the label) with the intricate and uncompromising "Subversive".

Producer and manager of the Slates Records label, Squal G is a French artist who has been passionate about electronic music since the early '90s.  Initially, he practised his art as a DJ before turning to machines and computers as he progressed with production.  Never sticking to a single style, instead, allowing inspiration to lead him, he nevertheless remains in the Techno spirit, as heard on "Waiting 4U".

A multi-faceted composer and DJ, Yann Lean also works as a sound engineer for himself and other artists.  Whether working as a duo with Madben and their side project Trunkline or as a solo artist, he has won the trust and support of prestigious labels such as KMS, Bedrock, Planet Rhythm, Skryptom and Materia, as well as COD3 QR who released "Hope" in 2020.  Now he's back with tribal drums on "To Get Close".

French born, Mexican resident Joaquim Plossu has been making music as a producer, multi-instrumentalist and sound designer for the past 20 years with releases on COD3 QR, 31 Recordings, Fokuz, Repertoire, Deep Heads, Planet Rhythm and more.  Both music composer and producer for TV and films, as well as Drum & Bass producer in his spare time, he teams up again with Leeds (UK) based Salem Focus (Fokuz Records / Soulvent / Galacy) for some energetic D&B on closing track "Cosmic".

The best artists and labels always keep you second-guessing, rarely working to templates and regularly releasing music that’s fresh, innovative and exciting. The STUG label’s modus operandi over the past few years has been discerning house and techno, so it’s particularly interesting to see label owner Bart van Rijn switch direction on STUG012. Over the course of four tracks, he reminds us of his knack for the spectacular, with each track playing its part in what’s a thoroughly stunning release.
The spiky, dexterous sounds of ‘SEVEN’ emerges first, amongst a cacophony of madness that never lets up throughout. Banging, but also featuring plenty of personality, it’s a brilliant slice of nuanced, wobbly techno that’s every bit as unpredictable as the man behind the music. ‘Reflect’ goes heavy on the sci-fi influences, with its laser-like synths and tense snares injecting it with a firm dancefloor impetus.
‘WAVES’ is the most ethereal and dreamy of the tracks, with this one characterized by clever percussive elements and sprightly, interjecting bells. ‘DRONE’, meanwhile, is a hypnotic, spine-tingling cut that transports the listener straight back to the depths of vintage Detroit. A barebones track that harks back to minimal planes, it still manages to create quite an impression. An all-round innovative release that speaks volumes of the producer’s ingenuity, STUG012 is a record that’s likely to earn repeated spins long after it’s released.

Bart van Rijn - Drone [STUG]

Dutch producer Bart van Rijn has established himself as a versatile force in electronic music, returning recently to his label STUG with the dynamic STUG013 release. This two-track EP, featuring "GIVING" and "CRASH," epitomizes van Rijn's signature sound, moving seamlessly between genres like tech-house, deep house, and techno. "GIVING" is a lush, warm track that feels especially fitting for the colder months, while "CRASH" delivers a high-energy, peak-time groove crafted for the dancefloor. STUG013 is van Rijn’s third consecutive release on his label, following "Waves" on STUG012, and he’s already gearing up for STUG014, titled "Alive," set to drop in early 2025.The STUG label itself, which Bart founded, started as a club night series in The Hague, embodying the city’s distinct, unyielding character and love for quality techno and house music. Since relaunching the label in 2017, Bart has been committed to releasing top-notch music, often inviting respected artists like Skudge, Works of Intent, Pablo Bolivar, and Lady Blacktronika to collaborate, alongside his own original productions.

Bart van Rijn is best known as the resident of the city’s STUG events―and a man who’s just as capable in the DJ booth as he is in the studio. Boasting a warm, soulful and always captivating sound, van Rijn’s versatility can be measured by the acts he’s played alongside. From international acts such as Radio Slave, Luke Slater and Carl Craig to local talent such as Patrice Baumel, Nuno dos Santos and Joris Voorn, van Rijn has truly chopped it up alongside some of electronic music’s foremost names. 

A producer with a keen ear for a baseline, van Rijn’s inaugural releases surfaced in 2015 on Rosedale Records courtesy of the exceptional sounds of the ‘Ylpha / Deta’ EP. 

In 2018, Bart embarked on arguably his biggest solo project to date: STUG Music. Never one to approach a project in half-measures, the label sprang into action courtesy of an unexpectedly eclectic cast of guests, with a mini album and 2 EPs featuring the work of Nikola Gala, Gerd, Perel, Rhadow, Kris Wadsworth, Carlos Nilmmns, Jamie Trench, Chocky, Kiwi, Chambray and a host of others. From dancefloor orientated house and techno to indie-influenced electronic music, both van Rijn and the label has already won support from Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Sasha, Black Madonna, Jimpster, Joris Voorn, Danny Tenaglia, Radio Slave and Groove Armada. An individual who simply refuses to stand still, Bart van Rijn is a name we’re sure you’ll be hearing much more from.
