We had fun recording this holiday classic, where our two "singers" are a piano and a chip lead. Although the lyrics of the original song are quite dated, we enjoy the interplay between the characters of the song from a musical standpoint--two adults bantering in a loose, improvisatory manner. We both wish you warm and happy holidays (because baby, it's cold outside!)

My second serious video game song. Is this a little too ambitious for that? lol

So VA-11 HALL-A. I actually brought the OST before playing the game, but the soundtrack by itself was SUPER dope; very chilled out electronic music with touches of 80s rock. I listen to it on a daily basis, even when sleeping. The game, when I finally bought it, is easily one of my favorites of 2016. Memorable characters, great story, and lots of personality!

I originally wanted to do an all-out metal cover without many keyboards, but I soon realized that I needed some texture, so I used Xpand!2 to spice up the bad boi. I actually recorded the ending first and generally went backwards from there, but I didn't have too much motivation to finish it (I'm a lazy dude), resulting in the process taking 3-4 weeks to complete.

Here's another tune from VA-11 HALL-A that really grew on me! I envisioned Joy Division playing this song as the basis of this cover and I took it from there. I also wanted to minimize the number of instruments without sacrificing instrumental texture, but I think I ended up with the same number as my previous cover. Ah well...

I just finished this game the other day and it was amazing. The original soundtrack by garoadmusic is sensational.

Sorry, this remix took so long; grad school and motivation bogged me down, plus I took a lot of time just tweaking and using and experimenting with different plugins, virtual instruments, and even a different interface (a used Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) just to get a better sound. 

For this remix, I decided to go the opposite route of my Dawn Approaches remix: ultra heavy and thick. I love electronica, but my first love in music was in heavy rock 'n roll. The rhythm to this song just stuck to my mind with its more propulsive drive, so I decided to make it heavier.

I may or may not do another VA-11 HALL-A song for my next cover; I definitely will do more, but I'd like to spice things up a little bit.

For those who aren't familiar with my Soundcloud stuff: hello, I am Leon aka StringGaige (only until recently was known as StringGaige23)! I started doing video game covers on my SC account around late December 2016, but I've recently decided to start uploading them onto this YT account I've had for several years. I'm running out of upload time on the former, so expect any future covers to be exclusively YT eventually. For the other people, sorry for the long wait; my spring term as a grad student was pretty busy for me throughout although I did arrange and record some parts sporadically during that time. And even after that term ended, I was busy sorting out personal stuff, such as my social anxiety, and my summer schedule (I'm really bad at planning). 

Eventually I did push myself to work on this cover to get this done, but I also decided to have a music video of some kind (just gameplay that I personally captured) instead of a still image as I originally planned which didn't take too long to be honest (aka I just downloaded the video making software and finished the video within a days worth; pardon the amateurishness of all!) 

I originally wanted to do a cover for another game, but I just ended up back to VA-11 HALL-A which I have no complains since it has one of the best VGM soundtracks of 2016 in my opinion plus the song I chose to cover is easily one of my favorites from the OST! Even though I sought to do a heavier rock version, I also needed some synths and keys in the back to fill out the space left from the drums, bass, and guitars I would eventually lay down. Unlike my previous cover of Transistor, I decided to doing manual double tracking for guitars which was pretty easy after looking up some videos courtesy of AHmusic (a freakin' good YT musician by the way; check out some of his stuff!). I do keep the drum arrangements fairly close to the original, but I also did add that double-bass heavy section after realizing that the arrangement would have been stale othewise. After some tinkering with the mastering and EQing, I think I did a good job what I sought to capture with my cover although there are a few astray notes from my lead guitar parts (it gets weirdly out of tune on occasion; I'm still trying to get that fixed...).
