Ayn Trio performs unique music composed by Basel Zayed. The music is composed and arranged for the trio to perform in a beautiful artistic style of modern musical style, influenced by the Middle Eastern musical heritage with an insight on a world music diversity perspective. The instrumental pieces are arranged using string instruments with no percussion. “Ayn Trio”, grounded by a special understanding of each instrument and each musical style aims to create a modern sound, appealing to diverse audiences. For admirers of Oriental-Mediterranean music and the Arab listener in particular, oud and buzuq are familiar instruments. Cello and violin, on the other hand, are familiar to the Western ear. Utilizing elements of Western musical arrangement yet preserving elements of Oriental-Mediterranean music such as the modes, rhythms and form supports Ayn Trio’s vision of uniting listeners from diverse backgrounds in a common musical experience.

بدر شاكر السياب (25 ديسمبر 1926 - 24 ديسمبر 1964)، شاعر عراقي يعد واحداً من الشعراء المشهورين في الوطن العربي في القرن العشرين، كما يعتبر أحد مؤسسي الشعر الحر في الأدب العربي.

Badr Shakir al-Sayyab


(1924–1964)
died tragically at the early age of 38, but in his short life he was largely responsible for a wholescale revolution in Arab poetics through his poetic experimentation and innovation at a time of great turmoil in the Arab world – the end of the Second World War and the creation of Israel. Al-Sayyab’s talent allowed him to write poetry that was completely new, both in form and in content, overturning the metrics of classical Arab poetry. He drew on ancient Iraqi and Greek mythologies and wrote about complex issues in simple language with powerful imagery.

He was influenced greatly by the English romantic poets, notably Keats, Shelley, Byron and Wordsworth, but above all by his contemporaries in spirit Edith Sitwell (1887-1964) and T S Eliot (1888-1965), both of whom had published ground-breaking collections just before al-Sayyab’s birth (Sitwell’s Façade and Eliot’s The Waste Land).

Together with fellow Iraqi poets, Nazik al-Malai’ka and Abdul Wahab al-Bayati, the Arab free verse poetry movement gained decisive momentum through the seven collections of Al-Sayyab published in the 1950s and early 1960s, notably the now renowned poem “Song of Rain” from his third and highly significant collection of 1960. It is considered by Arab critics and readers to be until now the most important collection of modern Arabic poetry.

Basel Zayed was born in Jerusalem in 1979. Started playing music at an early age. When he was 14 he began studying Piano and Oud, as well as receiving professional training for his voice. Zayed studied Oud and sang in the Arabic Choir of the Edward Said Conservatory of Music. Following his study in the National Conservatory. 
Zayed started studying music composition and harmony at the Magnificent Institute for Holy Music in Jerusalem. Since 1995 Zayed started to play music with many groups and with a number of artists, all of which had exposed him to different styles of music which formed a unique and distinguished artist in the field of alternative music.

Basel an accomplished virtuoso Oud player and vocalist skilled in highly developed Arab musical traditions, is also a trained pianist with a unique outlook on musical arrangement made him a member of many successful artistic ideas and performing groups, such as making and recording of soundtracks for movies, plays and dance groups.

As a music composer, arranger, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Zayed became an important contributor to Palestinian and Arabic music, through the integration of Arabic music with all its musically unique elements, and Western music with its various forms of jazz, reggae, pop and classical music, that has gained acclaim both locally and internationally.
For the past ten years, Basel has led the band Turab and has more recently focused on developing a style based on Palestinian music ‘with a jazz flavor’- Ara-Jazz. Ara-Jazz has been Basel's dream for a long time and now it is becoming a reality on stage and soon to be recorded on a number of records.
