The Torch is a rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden featuring experienced musicians with backgrounds in local bands Hostile Cell, Debbie Ray, Sixkiller and Maleficio. 

Started in 2012 under the name of Smash Atoms, the band then featured vocalist Glen Gilbert and drummer Ola Lindström formerly of Hide The Knives. During a turbulent recording of the first album "Light That Fire" there was a change in line up as well as band name. Martin Söderqvist took over the vocal duties and the band became a three-piece.

Eric Olausson of Hostile Cell joined in as the new "permanent" drummer and the album was released through Rambo Music. 

Nicke Borg of The Backyard Babies hailed The Torch (Smash Atoms) as the new rock sensation from Gothenburg in his radio show on Classic Rock radio while playing the title track off the album.

The singles "Shadow of The Sun and "Save Me" were played on Bandit Rock, P3 Rock as well as on numerous FM stations in Europe and the USA.

Classic Rock Magazine picked up the song "Riding" to be featured on their giveaway CD and named The Torch one of the best new bands of 2015.

After touring Italy with Thomas Silver (formerly of Hardcore Superstar) drummer Eric Olausson left the band and was replaced by long time friend Peter Derenius (who has too many projects to even start mentioning here). His fantastic energy brought new fuel to the band as they returned to the studio to record the follow up to Light That Fire.

In march 2017 The Torch has finished their new album "Chasing Light" and are hungrier then ever to get out there and play it to their loyal fans. Chasing Light is a ride back to the heavier side of the nineties, where grunge and hard rock collide in a brand new recipe that should appeal to fans of the old grunge bands and the new rock of today
