A short expedition into the much overlooked tipica cumbia sound of Panamá

The heartache, melancholy and joy in the Panamá Tipica sound is hard to match and like no other to experience. It comes from a rich background of regional musical traditions, carnival rivalry and hotbeds like the legendary 'Festival en Guarare'. As I understand it, Panamanian cumbia was first played on violin until the arrival of accordions on the Isthmus, most early acordeoneros were violinists first and foremost. This mixtape comprises of some of the best 45s from the Herrera and Los Santos provinces, from the mid 50s through to late 60s. Over the last few years I've had the good fortune to meet several of these wonderful artists. Featured here: Dorindo, Papi Brandao, Oswaldo,Fito Espina, Ulpiano, Ceferino and more... Drake, Lil Wayne - Forever (Thugstep RMX)

Nomadic hunter of funky and breaks rhythms, he was born somewhere between Strumica and Brixton.
As a child, he loved spending time with Uncle Aaron, listening to soul vinyl records in his living room covered with green and beige wallpaper. 
As a grown-up, during a trip to New York, he meets a taxi driver who gives him some old Motown mag tapes. On his way back to Europe by ship, he gets a job as a singer in a rhythm'n'blues band.
After 2 years of touring in the ocean, he eventually buys a Volkswagen and a couple of record players, and begins to liven up Buckingham Palace's official parties. His passion for vodka with orange juice and for brass bands leads him to travel from Sweden to Macedonia, where he suddenly becomes an actor in several TV commercials.
He is now based in Italy.
