We are teaming up with Listen! Festival again for the 3rd year in a row to curate a stage presenting artists from the past and new talent for the future. This year’s promotional tool is something tactile and very common in the Basic Moves world… It’s a 12” vinyl record!!!

ALL OF THE BENEFITS OF THIS RECORD WILL GO TO Liaison Antiiprohibitionniste (www.laliaison.org), an association for people affected by drug policies. It brings together those who are confronted with the problems caused by the prohibition of certain drugs. All are convinced, from their experience, of the need to implement an alternative policy to prohibitionism.


On the A side we have 2 tracks from Casablanca-born but now Brussels (!!!) based Driss Bennis aka OCB aka Dj.Booth from the now already legendary Moroccan label Casa Voyager. The first track is a proper banger for the peak time hours of the after hour, while the second track on the A-side is a broken beat stepper like only he can make. Keep the funk alive Driss and welcome to Brussels!

On the B-side are 2 tracks by Basic Moves’ own Walrus dating from 8 years ago coming from a lost demo asked by a big UK label but that never left his hard drive. B1 was made barefoot and is heavily inspired by early Omar S and the rougher sounds of US house. And the B2 is an ode to the city he loves and hates at the same time. “Free city light” between a smile and a tear. Brussels.

Originally released via Terraform Records in 1995, 'Systems E.P. 1' was certainly too ahead of its time to meet with success back in the day. That said, as years went by, so swelled the reputation of this sextet of visionary, alien-engineered jams, soon turning the once $1 bin find into a highly sought-after item on the second-hand market. Much to the displeasure of hardline speculators but for the greatest joy of skint '90s sound lovers, KOC reissues the Systems experience in full force and effect.

Harbouring a trio of submersible ambient-tech and 303-driven breaky weapons, Red Shift's own dedicated A-side has lost nothing of its soul-fulfilling appeal. Getting the ball rolling, '3rd Moon' skippers us to brightly hued sound niches, where trancey acid motifs merge with slo-moving ambient pads and uptempo breakbeat on a frenzy. Laced with a hint of bleepy abstraction, the more lascivious, piano-laden 'Audity' then shifts the scope to further introspective depths before 'Himalayas' takes us on a mind-expanding ride across imaginary snow-capped summits and lushly forested slopes.

Flip it over and here comes Ether and their mightily explosive 'Detonator' - a wild and woolly acid number that shall not go without conjuring up memories of the early Prodigy's mid-nineties rave exploits. Not to be confused with that of his contemporary Australian counterpart, Escape Artist's 'Rain Eternal' evokes the soulful RnB suavity of Sade's classics, adorned with otherworldly organic warbles and addictive piano stabs. Constants of Nature vibey closer 'Slow Symmetry Breaking' rounds off the journey on a further distinctively atmospheric note, perfect to muster up the energy and drive to take it on the lam from our crazy world.

The B2 features the Transparent Sound remix, which manages to maintain the essential groove of the original, while exploring other textures in the signiture Transparent Sound way.

OCB - Scum Planet PREVIEW [WAR2002]

Butter Sessions swiftly follows up Sleep D's May release BSD-01 with two complimentary heavyweights for a 12" release, Freak of Nature. Listeners may feel acquainted with the tracks as both have served as a staple in Sleep D's live set over the last 12 months.


Freak Of...is a strong beckon of electro-tinged techno that lures with a fearless pulse and an entrancing inflection, utilizing the faithful sounds of the Roland Jupiter 6, Super Jupiter and TR-09. The follow-up echoes basslines and percussion to overtly fuse the two tracks together. Nature taps further into Sleep D's homage to the live techno greats of the 1990s and early 2000s, mirroring their vigorous and eager momentum. Overall, Freak of Nature hits as an anesthetic swirl of brisk looping and thoughtful production.

For the first record of the new decade, Outer Zone welcomes Modus’ triumphant return for this second part of his “Triple M” sequence.

Standing in direct contrast to the stasis much of modern life has been held in, this EP offers up an opportunity to vicariously enjoy a world where the futuristic vistas that techno promised at its genesis seem present. DSP welcomes back the prolific one-man-machine from Malta… Keith Farrugia AKA Sound Synthesis for the first solo EP on the imprint. ‘Memory Sequence’ Depicts a cerebral journey into the depths of cognitive recall. 

The record opens with ‘Electric Flux’. Acidic Electro reminiscent of the cold futurism of early Detroit Electro with an informed shift in perspective that pushes things further forward. 

The A-side concludes with the mysterious, arp laced ‘Melodija’. A heartfelt example of Sound Synthesis’ depth and individualism when it comes to the deeper side of Electro. 

‘A3B0L3’ takes things in a more playful direction on the flip. Smooth chords, soulful drum programming and lysergic elements of Keith’s futuristic funk leave a vivid impression on the soul. 

The final statement on the record ‘Melody Chords’ Takes us on a ride of self-reflection, emotional depth and melodic distinction. Leaving the mind in a state of profound clarity upon it's resolve.
