Sri Nanak Prakash is a detailed historical account of the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was written by Mahakavi (great poet) Bhai Santokh Singh Ji in 1824 (AD), and represents one of the most comprehensive and beautifully written accounts of Guru Ji’s life. It is usually associated as a part of the greater text known as Sri Gurpartap Suraj Granth (aka Suraj Prakash) which details the historical accounts of all 10 Guru Sahibs in poetic form. It is an ocean of bliss, knowledge and experience. It is said that if one listen to the history of the lives of all 10 Gurus through these texts with complete devotion and faith, they can reach enlightenment.

Celebrating 400 years of the Parkash Purab (coming into the world) of the 9th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Basics of Sikhi presents this beautiful Gurbani Kirtan of Salok Mahalla 9.

Salok Mahalla 9 are letters written by the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji in 1675 whilst being imprisoned in Delhi, India.

These letters were sent to the Sikhs in Sri Anandpur Sahib, including their mother, Mata Nanaki Ji, their wife, Mata Gujri Ji and their son, Sri Gobind Rai Ji, after the martyrdom of their three beloved Sikhs, Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji and Bhai Dayala Ji.

These letters epitomise Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s true state of detachment and emphasise the precious opportunity given to us in this life to connect to Vaheguru Ji.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the eternal Sikh Guru. The light of the 10 physical Sikh Guru's (from Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji) is the embodiment of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 

When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji passed on the Guruship to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Guru would forever be in the Scripture form, but Sikh's do not refer to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a book! We still see them as our Living and Physical Guru, which can be seen through how we treat, respect and love Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Ardaas is known as a humble prayer to the divine. Many of us have many wants in life, we ask for peace and happiness and expect to receive these through worldly possessions or relationships we have with our beloved ones. Even when acquiring such things we still cannot find or feel that happiness we yearn for. 
The message of Sikhi, is a very simple one, connect to the One through meditation and serve humanity. Many times we read and recite our prayers to God, but when was the last time we did Ardaas after our prayer, to ask for this true happiness of become one with Waheguru? 

So why not try it yourself? Next time you finish reciting a prayer, spend an extra minute speaking to the One. Start by thanking them, then ask to become with them and for the goodness of all humankind.

Bhai Bala Ji, a dear companion and Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev Ji travels to meet the 2nd Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji. 
In the events of happiness, Bhai Bala Ji is sent to meet Guru Nanak Dev Ji's uncle and retrieve their ‘birth certificate’. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's uncle is then asked to narrate and explain the events of Guru Ji.
