ਸੰਗ ਸਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਨਿਬਹਿਓ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
sang sakhaa sabh taj ge-e ko-oo na nib-hio saath |
My associates and companions have all deserted me; no one remains with me.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ॥੫੫॥
kahu naanak eh bipat mai ttek ek raghunaath |55|
Says Nanak, in this tragedy, Vaheguru alone is my support.

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਹਿਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
naam rehio saadhoo rehio rehio gur gobind |
Naam remains, the hold saints remain, the Guru and Vaheguru (God) remain.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਕਿਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤੁ ॥੫੬॥
kahu naanak eh jagat mai kin japio gur mant |56|
Says Nanak, rare are those who change the Guru's Mantra in this world.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਗਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
raam naam ur mai gehio jaa kai sam nehee koe |
I have enshrined Vaheguru's Name within my heart; there is nothing equal to it.

ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਿਟੈ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੫੭॥੧॥
jih simrat sankatt mittai daras tuhaaro hoe |57|1|
Meditating in remembrance on it, my troubles are taken away; I have received Your blessed vision.

Salok Mehalla 9 is a collection of stanzas written by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji (Ninth Sikh Guru) and is well known to be hard hitting, a wake up call and sheds some reality on life. Jin Har Japiaa Thin Peeshhai Shhoottee Ghanee ||1||
So many are emancipated along with those who meditate on the Lord. ||1||

ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
Gurasikh Har Bolahu Maerae Bhaaee ||
O GurSikhs, chant the Name of the Lord, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਤ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Har Bolath Sabh Paap Lehi Jaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
Chanting the Lord's Name, all sins are washed away. ||1||Pause||

ਜਬ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਬ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Jab Gur Miliaa Thab Man Vas Aaeiaa ||
When one meets the Guru, then the mind becomes centered.

ਧਾਵਤ ਪੰਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Dhhaavath Panch Rehae Har Dhhiaaeiaa ||
The five passions, running wild, are brought to rest by meditating on the Lord.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਗਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Anadhin Nagaree Har Gun Gaaeiaa ||2||
Night and day, within the body-village, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਈ ॥
Sathigur Pag Dhhoor Jinaa Mukh Laaee ||
Those who apply the dust of the Feet of the True Guru to their faces,

ਤਿਨ ਕੂੜ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
Thin Koorr Thiaagae Har Liv Laaee ||
Renounce falsehood and enshrine love for the Lord.

ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
Thae Har Dharageh Mukh Oojal Bhaaee ||3||
Their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
Gur Saevaa Aap Har Bhaavai ||
Service to the Guru is pleasing to the Lord Himself.

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੁ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਲਗਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
Kirasan Balabhadhra Gur Pag Lag Dhhiaavai ||
Even Krishna and Balbhadar meditated on the Lord, falling at the Guru's Feet.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੩॥
Naanak Guramukh Har Aap Tharaavai ||4||5||43||
O Nanak, the Lord Himself saves the Gurmukhs. ||4||5||43||
