When you bring God's gifts into your awareness, it gives you the opportunity not only to think of God but also to experience the existence of God. What we often perceive to be the truth is tainted with the lens of ignorance (Maya). The illusion of Maya keeps us from experiencing or knowing that there is only the One. When we start to serve, seeing everything to be a play of that One, the honour we receive is the very embrace of the One.

Sometimes we spend a lot of time and effort in doing certain practises that are more pleasing to us than to the One. Guru Nanak Dev Ji asks, 'what is it that we receive outside of grace?' The Guru gives us the understanding that everything comes from the One. Through the remembrance of the One (Simran), we can become aware of grace and through that, receive divine qualities.
