Japji Sahib English Explanation Katha of Pauris 8 to 11

This recording focuses on the 8th - 11th Pauris of Sri Jap Ji Sahib where Guru Sahib describes the effect of "listening" to Gurbani and the Truth. 

We go though all four pauris and discuss the different means of listening and the effect upon us of washing our soul of pains and sins to start to blossom. We sing Kirtan of the four pauris and do Vaheguru simran. 

The kirtan was sung by a Russian Amritdhari Sikh living in London. 
With Guru's blessings, the SIKHI in English series will be going through the entire Sri Jap Ji Sahib, (the very first Bani in Sri Guru Granth Sahib) and trying understand it in English alongside singing Gurbani kirtan to help explain further.

The programme is held every Sunday from 6-7pm at Park Avenue Gurdwara, Southall. English discourse alongside kirtan and simran by local kirtanees. Please give us your darshan and sangat.

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Bilaaval, Fifth Mehla:

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੁਨੀਅਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ-ਵਾਰਤਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । 
I listen to God's Teachings from the Saints.

ਕਥਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਧੁਨਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਅਰੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਉਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਥਾ-ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੌ ਸਦਾ ਚਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord's Sermon, the Kirtan of His Praises and the songs of bliss perfectly resonate, day and night. ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । 
In His Mercy, God has made them His own, and blessed them with the gift of His Name.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਤ ॥੧॥
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Glorious Praises of God. Sexual desire and anger have left this body. ||1||

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਤ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । 
I am satisfied and satiated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan. I eat the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's sublime food.

ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਤ ॥੨॥੪॥੮੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੨।੪।੮੪।
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of Your Feet, O God; in Your Mercy, unite him with the Society of the Saints. ||2||4||84||
