ਭਾਦਰੋਂ ਦਾ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਰਹ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ (ਪਾਸ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦਸਾ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲੀ ਘਟਾ ਗਰਜਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਦ੍ਯੋਸ ਨਿਸਾ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨ ਪਰੈ ਤਮ ਬਿਜੁ ਛਟਾ ਰਵਿ ਕੀ ਛਬਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
dhayos nisaa neh jaan parai tam bij chhaTaa rav kee chhab paiee ||
(ਬਦਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਤਨਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਰਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਖੇੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਵਰਗੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
The clouds are gathering in from all the ten directions, no difference appears between day and night and in the darkness the lightning is flashing like the sun

ਮੂਸਲਧਾਰ ਛੁਟੈ ਨਭਿ ਤੇ ਅਵਨੀ ਸਗਰੀ ਜਲ ਪੂਰਨਿ ਛਾਈ ॥
moosaladhaar chhuTai nabh te avanee sagaree jal pooran chhaiee ||
ਮੋਹਲੇ ਜਿੰਨੀ (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ) ਧਾਰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਜਲ ਪਸਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
It is raining cats and dogs from the sky and the water has spread over all the earth

ਐਸੇ ਸਮੇ ਤਜਿ ਗਯੋ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਟਸਕ੍ਯੋ ਨ ਹੀਯੋ ਕਸਕ੍ਯੋ ਨ ਕਸਾਈ ॥੯੧੯॥
aaise same taj gayo ham ko Tasakayo na heeyo kasakayo na kasaiee ||919||
ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਮੇਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਨਾ ਦਿਲ ਦੁਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ) ਪੀੜ ਦੀ ਖਿਚ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੯੧੯॥

ਭੂਖੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ
I am so hungry, I cannot perform devotional worship service.

ਯਹ ਮਾਲਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । 
Here, Lord, take back Your mala.

ਹਉ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਰੇਨਾ ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇੱਕ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰ, ਦੂਜੇ) ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
I beg for the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਦੇਨਾ ॥੧॥
ਤਾਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵਾਂ ।੧
I do not owe anyone anything. ||1||

ਮਾਧੋ ਕੈਸੀ ਬਨੈ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭ ਸਕਣੀ
O Lord, how can I be with You?

ਆਪਿ ਨ ਦੇਹੁ ਤ ਲੇਵਉ ਮੰਗੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ ।ਰਹਾਉ
If You do not give me Yourself, then I shall beg until I get You. ||Pause||

ਦੁਇ ਸੇਰ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚੂਨਾ ॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਸੇਰ ਆਟੇ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ, 
I ask for two kilos of flour,

ਪਾਉ ਘੀਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੂਨਾ ॥
ਇਕ ਪਾਉ ਘਿਉ ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੂਣ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, 
and half a pound of ghee, and salt.

ਅਧ ਸੇਰੁ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਲੇ ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਅੱਧ ਸੇਰ ਦਾਲ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I ask for a pound of beans,

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੋਨਉ ਵਖਤ ਜਿਵਾਲੇ ॥੨॥
ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਾਨ ਲਈ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹਨ ।੨।
which I shall eat twice a day. ||2||

ਖਾਟ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚਉਪਾਈ ॥
ਸਾਬਤ ਮੰਜੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ
I ask for a cot, with four legs,

ਸਿਰਹਾਨਾ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਲਾਈ ॥
ਸਿਰਾਣਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਲਾਈ ਭੀ 
and a pillow and mattress.

ਊਪਰ ਕਉ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਖੀਂਧਾ ॥
ਉਪਰ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਰਜ਼ਾਈ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ—ਬੱਸ!
I ask for a quilt to cover myself.

ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਜਨੁ ਥਂੀਧਾ ॥੩॥
ਫਿਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ (ਸਰੀਰਕ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ ।੩।
Your humble servant shall perform Your devotional worship service with love. ||3||

ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਲਬੋ ॥
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ (ਮੰਗਣ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, 
I have no greed;

ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੈ ਫਬੋ ॥
ਕਉਂਕਿ (ਉਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ) ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ 
Your Name is the only ornament I wish for.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
Says Kabeer, my mind is pleased and appeased;

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ (ਡੂੰਘੀ) ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੧।

Madho Kaisi Bane Tum Sange (Puratan Reet) - Bhai Gyan Singh Jogi

Bhai Nand Lal (Punjabi: ਭਾਈ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ) (c. 1633-1713), was a poet famous in the Sikh tradition and favourite disciple of Guru Gobind Singh. His poetry, all in Persian except for Joti Bikas, which is in Punjabi, forms part of the approved Sikh canon and can be recited along with scriptural verse at Sikh religious divans. Nand Lal adopted the pen-name of "Goya," though at places he has also subscribed himself as "Lal," the word being the last part of his name. He was a scholar, learned in the traditional disciplines of the time, and his image in Sikh history is that of a man who loved and venerated Guru Gobind Singh and has been in turn loved and venerated by generations of Sikhs.
