Mr prolific Rayko is back with yet more gems. If you thought that Chromeo were the only folk out there rockin' that whole mid-80s electro-boogie thing, you'd be wrong. This EP could be straight out of the US club charts, circa 1986. "You're The Best" might easily be Chaka Kahn jammin' in the Danceteria, "Bored" is Miami freestyle meets Jam & Lewis with lashings of harsh string stabs for '80s overload. Finally, "Win U Back" takes a pinch of Shalamar, sprinkles in some Pointer Sisters and mixes it up for a frothy Soul Weekender explosion.

Brass Tax had our own stage at BOC this year, tucked away from the fray up in a corner, and we couldn't have been happier with seeing all the beautiful (masked) faces who came by to say hello! In addition to being my first public appearance since NYD 2020, this is one of my favorite sets I've ever played, full of funky, soulful house, midtempo breaks, and groovy rolling basslines. We didn't get a recording at the festival, so I decided to recreate it live from Bowerbird. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Playing Daybreaker at Grace Cathedral was incredibly meaningful for me on so many levels. Growing up singing in church choir was my first connection to music, so being able to DJ in a house of worship (in my wedding dress!) really brought my musical journey full circle. I thought deeply about what to play, and decided that it was really important to play soulful, uplifting house music, the music that unapologetically spreads love in the face of judgement, the music that was created (and still is) to bring fellowship to so many Black, gay, and other marginalized groups when organized religion did not support them. For so many, house music IS church — the only church where they feel 100% loved and accepted for who they are. Bringing these seemingly two diametric opposites under one roof was a powerful experience and I’m so grateful to Daybreaker and Grace Cathedral for making it happen. So as Jack said…Let There Be House!
