NDRX and Bassiani go hand in hand. As a teenager he took to DJing to passing traffic on his hometown’s streets with some friends and some signs saying ‘We need clubs in Georgia’. This motto serving as something of a north star, it’s safe to say his dream has been fulfilled. These days, the self-styled music activist runs his very own DJ school and creative community (11th) with the goal of paying favours forward. Far be it from him to rest easy in retirement though, he’s active as ever: number 123 is a live recording of his recent set on Bassiani home turf. Distorted submarine bleeps, nimble basslines, expert layering, cranium-splintering techno, it’s all there, and this Tbilisi veteran is just getting started.

If she hasn’t crossed your radar yet, the Bassiani resident could do soon. Since 2012, Newa’s experimental productions and makeshift sets have been making her presence felt all over this town. That’s changed a little with the pandemic (and becoming a mother), which makes this rare recording, her first set in a while, all the more special. Bassiani Podcast 166 guest of the hour is homegrown DJ/Producer Nugo Basilaia, AKA Bassil. The enigmatic Tbilisi-based techno head is a budding fixture on Georgian soil, with a penchant for chopped up beats, glitchy rhythms and left-field selections. RE production work, his debut album ‘Theory of Balance’ was just out last year, something of a compilation of frequencies from outer space, so he’s really only getting started. There’ll be more sounds from the firmament in due time. While he works on them, there’s a new instalment in the podcast series to sate your musical hankering. Nugo’s contribution is a turbo-charged barrage of ominous synthesisers and cyborg rumblings, a reverberating sci-fi score that offers everything from a mutant mash-up of cult classic ‘Clubbed to Death’ through minimal machinations and dystopian breaks. Sinister, thundering techno from the belly of an alien planet.

The next podcast features Gwän, a Tbilisi/Berlin-based Georgian artist who is a resident of Fluid.Vision, a queer collective from Berlin. The mix is taken from her performance at Left Bank in April this year, where she delighted the audience with a selection of energetic old-school groovy tracks that kept playing until closing time. Ahead of her show tomorrow, she will be performing on our outdoor stage for the first time in the morning. Don’t miss it!

The very first mix of our podcast series in 2017 comes from Ndrx, the resident of Bassiani, initiator of now closed but well-know local project Stare At Dj and a founding member of the collective "11TH". The set, nearly two and a half hours long was recorded at Bassiani as part of the Northern Electronics Night on New Year and is broken up into two separate parts: one is brimming with atmospheric, ambient textures and the other is consisting more of experimental and dub techno. With the twists and turns throughout the mix, Bassiani resident skillfully removes us from the dance floor and creates a great listen with plenty of mind-blowing music.
