I've been a fan of Noisia for longer than I can remember, always looked up to them as musical gods :) When I first heard 'Get Deaded' last summer I immediately made the ugly face, and threw this edit together so I could play it in my sets - their original drop is super spastic and abstract and totally loco, but I wanted to just kind of steady the groove out a bit, and lock it into place as more of a straight down-the-plate banger.
When they said they wanted to release it, I was honored, but I think it should be called "version" more than "remix" - because I wasn't trying to change anything, I just wanted to tweak it a bit so it fit into my sets. Crushes crowds every time...

NOISIA - Get Deaded (Bassnectar Remix)

I loved the original "What So Not & GANXZ track Lone (feat. JOY)" and found a Slow Hours remix of it that was just incredible, but I felt that the song lost some energy in the remix and needed a boost.

So- I started messing with it. 

 I kicked up the BPM, deconstructed the piano parts that were prominent in the slow section, and transposed them to midi, which I then used to layer the synths, pads, and samplers. Those notes lead the way to the arrangement. I aggressively took out some of the slow parts, and doubled up on the parts that I liked.  Then the drop was developed into something huge!  It's evolved to it's current state after many hours of engineering it and the song has finally really come together and hit that sweet spot where the mix is good.  - I ended up adding some pretty gnarly analog-esque synth parts that made the drop happen in a style that represents how I head it in my mind. I wish I had true analog synths- I might have to revisit this one again someday. 

I finally got the piano to sit in a nice place after playing with the sampler for a few hours.   Making it big and far put it in its place. :)My favorite part is the last chorus.  I found some good samples from the original and was able to loop them to create a nice sounding effect. 

I am a fan of very complicated layering with lot's of automation- I think you can listen to this one a few times and keep finding new sounds in there.  (There are over 60 tracks)

 I added a bunch of compression sidechaining to make the mix pop, and processed several tracks through my analog gear. (Custom Drip LA-2A opto all tube compressor with sowter transformers, SB4000 buss compressor with quadVCA mod, All tube Drip Pultec eq via Sowter transformers and audiophile caps)

Re-Mastering
It is pumped up now-  if you don't think it's loud enough turn it up and be glad it's not clipping. ;) 

I think that my mastering chain really gave the song a nice and organic eq curve, it was a bit harsh and spread thin before, although @SlowHours have some amazing sounding layered instruments and great production skillz. (it might be time for me to upgrade my software instruments) but there is no substitute for the musical quality of tube amplifiers and analog equalization-  It takes the computer a step back and brings a musical quality to the final sound.   

This was completely remixed using Apple Logic, Native instruments, analog eq and compression along with one or two waves plugins- there are also a few Logic instruments In there. Studio and equipment info at http://mammothsounds.com
