Multi-genre producer born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia whose personal motto reads: “keep it simple”, is a part of the storied Soulection crew. Well known for his EP 'Esoteric', which dropped in summer 2012, the twentysomething year old has collaborations with other stellar artists like Sango and Mr. Carmack as well as various remixes of premium artists such as Erykah Badu, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean range from electronic chillwaved dance to spacey yet refined hip-hop. With a unique sound that seamlessly and effortlessly combines the perfect amount of bass, bounce and vocals, This Is Her becomes palatable to many.

The album has an overwhelming feminine vibe to it – light and airy, soft and beautiful. As LAKIM draws the soundscape for this project from some inspiring ladies in his life, the sounds come through as traits: calm & collected, sexy & sassy, grounded & driven, loving & unconditional.

“During the course of the year I probably spent making this, I met three woman that embodied some of these traits but not all of them. So, this is essentially me taking the best bits from each of them and creating in my mind a Bride of Franksteinesque ladyfriend and putting it into song form, lol...” - LAKIM

It's been a while since we've put out some music huh? Well we apologize for that. We've been growing at such a fast rate and we had to put our focus on to other avenues within Soulection to make this the best platform possible for many years to come. 

With that said, we are sooooo excited to bring your attention to a new artist who you most likely have never heard of (that's about to change) from Wales, UK. We were put on to this talented individual by our friend @helios5th when we first traveled to London back in May. Something about PYRMD's sound just captured us instantly. It's very unique and his melodies just capture your mind like your favorite incense.

PYRMDPLAZA is currently attending the University of Wales and is studying 'Creative Sound and Music'. He uses Ableton but started off with FLStudio. PYRMD started making music about 6-7 years ago and created privately for many years until the beginning of this year when he realized that he wanted to showcase his music. He definitely made the right choice otherwise we wouldn't be here at this very moment. Goes to show you how important social media is and how simply hitting "upload" can change your whole life by connecting with the world.

Called a “formidable tandem” by OkayPlayer, their sounds have been championed early on by the likes of Kaytranada, Soulection, Nightmares on Wax, Pomo, Exmag, Big Boi, and Phife Dawg. After a few early releases on Vancouver based netlabel Jellyfish Recordings, Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz reissued their 2012 landmark Kosmichemusik EP and pressed a 7” which quickly became a collector’s item. The association landed their song “Back To My Sh*t” (featuring Frank Nitty of Frank’n’Dank) on a Powerade produced LeBron James documentary and Nick and Astro began working on a debut LP for Bastard Jazz, presented here.

Big Luxury draws from influences disparate as classic jazz, prog rock, disco, 90’s hip-hop, DJ Shadow-Era downtempo beats, alongside modern influences like the Brainfeeder crew and new electronic movements coming out of Nick Wisdom’s adopted hometown of Montreal.  What’s resulted is a finely honed, extra buttery album that effortly glides between tempos, but never loses the mood.  The album also features a whole host of guest vocalists -  J Dilla’s younger brother Illa J, legendary Canadian MC Moka Only, New Zealand’s Sorceress, and Amalia all provide contributions to the sounds within.  The album will set the tone for the duo’s big moves this year, including forthcoming collaborations with Illa J and Pomo as well as tour dates in North America and beyond. 

Big Luxury is a velvety ride through vibes and a magnificent debut for these talented young Canadians.

Production duo Potatohead People are back to light a fuse for their upcoming album Big Luxury with a double A-side single featuring Illa-J and Moka Only. The Canadian beatsmiths (aka Vancouver’s AstroLogical and Montreal’s Nick Wisdom) return to join forces with Brooklyn-based label Bastard Jazz, following the success of 2013's Kosmichemusik EP and cult hit 7-inch, as well as an onslaught of internet shaking remixes. 

"Explosives" is a smoothed out Slum Village-esque hip-hop joint featuring J-Dilla's younger brother and Yancey Boys member Illa-J trading rhymes and harmonies with Vancouver mainstay Moka Only, while "Blue Charms" shows a synthier, instrumental side of the duo with it's Prog-ish bassline, soaring vibes, and heavy drums.

The Boston-bred globe trotting ambassadors of all things funky, Soul Clap, are coming in deep with a brand new single on Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz Recordings. Taken from the forthcoming Tempo Dreams Volume 3 compilation the duo has put together for the label, this 7-inch single is a taste of what's to come on the full album.

On the A-Side, Soul Clap's "So Sedated" is a chugging, synth heavy ode to the transformational powers of the dancefloor featuring druggy, understated vocals by Dayonne Rollins. As a B-Side bonus not available on the compilation, Brazilian producers Sphynx take things back with "Azul", a 1980's infected electro joint with squelching bass, echo'd out claps and cosmic keys.

"So Sedated / Azul" will be out worldwide on Feb 23rd on digital and 7" Vinyl.
