Bastard Jazz is proud to present the debut EP from Brussels based production duo Eric P & LuiGi aka MonkeyRobot. Their trademark: exploring the boundaries of soulful music between 90 and 120 bpm. Catching eyes and ears worldwide through their work as 74 Miles Away (Melting Pot Music), and Hip-Hop production under the moniker Infinitskills, alongside radio play from Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Anthony Valadez (KCRW) & Kev Beadle and Tall Black Guy, who selected their standout “Basement Infusion” track to be on his Tempo Dreams compilation album (released in June on Bastard Jazz), and alliance between the label and M.R. seemed natural. 

Here on their self-titled 12”, MonkeyRobot deliver four diverse tracks that showcase their skills behind the boards, the MPC and the keys, with a keen ear for the dancefloor. Kicking things off, “Brick Stomach” is a synth-heavy four-to-the-floor 120 BPM joint that comes off like a Floating Points visit back in time to 1980’s Detroit with it’s rolling snares, arpeggiating synth bassline and cloudy pads. Next Up, “Northern Light” filters shimmering space disco vibes through big, thumping instrumental Hip-Hop drums and moody analog bass. On the flip, “Rosè Gris” takes things in a funkier direction at 100BPM with it’s syncopated drums, irresistible lead, squelching bassline and all manner of synthesizer explorations. Rounding off the EP is “Last Days”, which still manages to inject a funky 80’s analog sound into it’s melancholy downtempo vibes. This is a seriously strong debut from a truly musically talented duo – keep your eyes open for more!

Following the critically-acclaimed 2012 release of their beat-centric compilation <a href="https://soundcloud.com/bastardjazz/sets/tall-black-guy-presents">'Tempo Dreams Vol. 1'</a> (assembled by Detroit/UK producer-at-large Tall Black Guy), Brooklyn wax purveyors Bastard Jazz Recordings have returned with Volume 2 of the enlightening, genre-bending series. This time around, the label has enlisted Bay Area mainstay DJ/producers Teeko & B. Bravo, driving forces behind the transformative “modern funk” sound emerging out of the West Coast. Sticking with the series' theme of showcasing new styles and emerging artists, curated by their own musical peers, Teeko and Bravo have conjured up an LP of mind-blowing tracks that push the limits of soulful electronic funk, outernational boogie, and cosmic hip-hop.

'Tempo Dreams Volume 2' picks up where the first edition left off, bridging the gaps between various geographic locations and local scenes, while also reaching for new heights with soaring vocal features and dance-floor primed beats. The compilers' home town is heavily represented through hits like the 80's R&B-styled bomb “Hard Pressed” by Rojai and E.Live, the deep & sexy nighttime-synth vibes of K-Maxx (“Dreamin’ Of You”), and an unreleased sun-drenched remix of the Bayonics track “Wheels". Left coast collective Mugpush bring more heat on “Came Too Far”, channeling a deft balance of smooth P-Funk with killer rhymes from the ever-versatile Black Spade. Teeko and Bravo's own Starship Connection keeps things bumping with “We Can Go All Night”, complete with sexy boogie thump, understated vocals and twinkling synths. Europe and the UK also supply their take on this sound, with the nasty vocodor funk of “Dans” by Belgium’s Pomrad, the bass-heavy Atjazz creeper “One” (featuring wunderkind Amalia’s woozy vocals), and the swirling UK electro-hop of the Insomniax ("A Vibe For Chrissy"), with it’s lovelorn hip-hop vocals.

Individually, both Teeko and B.Bravo have hefty resumes: Bravo is a 2010 graduate of Red Bull Music Academy with releases on Brownswood, Frite Nite and Ernest Endeavors. His tune “Computer Love” was named one of 2009’s best tracks by Benji B (BBC Radio 1). He’s shared the stage with artists like Chromeo, Dam-Funk, Flying Lotus and serenaded crowds across the world with his bass heavy outerspace boogie and dirty grinding synth grooves at festivals like SXSW, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and Sonar in Barcelona. Teeko, creator of SF’s infamous 4ONEFUNK crew, has been a key player in the next generation of the Bay Area’s Turntablist scene and has been called “the most insane & creative turntablist I have ever worked with" by Mark Ronson, who featured him on his Record Collection album. Recent years have had Teeko looking towards production with his debut album Turn Off The Dark and his collaboration with B.Bravo as The Starship Connection, churning out cosmic, sludgy electronic funk music on Salva’s Fritenite label. The duo's deft ear and unparalleled musical credentials inspired Bastard Jazz to enlist them for this next expedition into Tempo Dreams. "We wanted to represent soulful music being made by our piers from all over the world," says B. Bravo "Artists from California to New York, Canada, London, Germany all with different modern styles but sharing a common thread of being influenced by funk and soul."

Just in time for Valentine's day, Bastard Jazz is proud to present a lovesick 7" debut from Vancouver/Montreal duo Potatohead People (aka producers Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical). The duo has been making waves for quite some time now through their slew of releases with netlabel Jellyfish Recordings before getting picked up by the Brooklyn based label.

On the "A" side of the 7", "Back To My Shit" is a lovelorn tale of breakup and redemption featuring the rhymes of Detroit's Frank Nitt (Frank'n'Dank, J. Dilla) with very catchy yet deep synth-heavy production from the Potatohead People. On the flip sidem, we continue the theme with "Love Hz", an instrumental cut with crispy drums, ghostly vocal stabs, a catchy bubbling bassline and pulsing keyboards.

Brooklyn-based Bastard Jazz Recordings is proud to present The Kosmichemusik EP by Montreal/Vancouver duo Potatohead People (aka producers Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical) who had previously created internet buzz through their digital-only releases on netlabel Jellyfish Recordings. Next up, “It Gets Good” features Vancouver mainstay MC and renaissance man Moka Only spitting mellow Sunday-morning style rhymes over Potatoheads deep and moody hip-hop vibes, while “Blossoms” features Canadian vocalist and frequent collaborator Claire Mortifee providing gorgeous, quirky vocals over a bubbling, bouncy track with subdued bass, guitar and Rhodes weaving themselves in.
