Steinway artist, Chad Lawson, decided Chopin needed a new introduction.  Along with violinist Judy Kang (Lady Gaga, Ryuichi Sakamoto) and cellist Rubin Kodheli (Kanye West, Norah Jones), Lawson has arranged ten Chopin works into a minimalist landscape.

It's a risk editing the "poet of the piano" but one that Chopin would be proud of.  

Taking 10 Chopin works, Lawson decided to scale the works down to a minimalist setting.  "I knew even if bare-bones, Chopin's works could still be as spellbinding as the original compositions we are so familiar with." says the pianist.

In a quaint village nestled between rolling hills and lush meadows, lived a young man named Finn. Finn’s journey began in his early teens when he discovered an old guitar and a dusty piano in his grandmother’s attic. He taught himself to play, finding solace and joy in the melodies he created. Music became his constant companion, a way to express his deepest emotions and wildest dreams. The combination of relaxed piano and gentle guitar chords spoke to his soul, capturing the essence of his journey through life.

As he grew older, Finn’s thirst for adventure led him far from his village. He roamed through bustling cities and remote villages, climbed towering mountains, and sailed across vast oceans. Everywhere he went, he carried his guitar, composing songs that reflected his experiences and the people he met along the way. The music he created was a blend of his piano’s soothing notes and the guitar’s warm, resonant strings, a harmonious echo of his own dual nature: restless yet searching for tranquility.

Despite the excitement of his travels, there was always a part of Finn that yearned for something more—a deeper sense of purpose, a place where he truly belonged. He found fleeting moments of peace in the beauty of a sunset, the laughter of new friends, and the quiet solitude of a forest. Yet, these moments were often overshadowed by the restless urge to move on.

One summer, after years of wandering, Finn returned to his village. It was a place that had always been a backdrop to his stories but never the focus. Now, with the wisdom gained from his journeys, he saw it in a new light. The familiar hills and meadows were no longer just home; they were a canvas of peace and contentment that he had overlooked in his youth.

Finn set up a small studio in his grandmother’s attic, the same place where he had discovered his love for music. He began to compose a new piece, titled “At Peace.” The music was a relaxed piano and guitar instrumental, a reflection of his journey—the highs and lows, the adventures and the moments of calm. As he played, the notes flowed effortlessly, blending into a melody that was both soothing and uplifting.

The piano’s gentle keys captured the serenity he had found in the stillness of nature, while the guitar’s warm strings resonated with the joy and fulfillment of his adventures. Each chord was a testament to the lessons he had learned and the peace he had finally discovered within himself. It was a melody of acceptance, of understanding that life’s winding road was not just about the destinations but also about the journey and the growth it brought.

In creating “At Peace,” Finn realized that true tranquility was not something to be found in distant lands or thrilling exploits, but within himself. It was in the quiet moments of reflection, the simple joys of life, and the music that connected his past to his present. Finn’s adventurous spirit was still alive, but now it was tempered with a profound sense of peace and contentment.

And so, in the quaint village amidst rolling hills, Finn found his true home—not just in a place, but in the harmonious blend of his experiences and the peace he carried within his heart.
