Aberystwyth Cliff Railway

Created using field recording made on a return trip up Constitution Hill on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway (a funicular railway travelling to the top of the cliff overlooking the town and seafront) in August 2021.

All the percussive elements are door slams, sounds of the carriage creaking, numerous bangs and shudders as we cross over points in the track, etc. Other than the various bangs and crashes, and of course the tourists that make up our fellow passengers, it is a quiet method of locomotion (we we almost worried we might not have recorded anything worthwhile). The engine driving the winch, simultaneously spooling cable in and out for the two cars (one ascending, the other descending) is situation at the top of the cliff.

I was aware afterwards that the rhythm track came out sounding like the much-sampled Kraftwerk "Numbers" percussion pattern. It wasn't a conscious decision to ape this, and I make no apologies for it. The melody is from a virtual instrument I created of samples recorded from my steel tongue drum.

Written and performed by Craig High and Gavin Lloyd Wilson as the current incarnation of Spurious Transients, "Guilt Trip" is a sing-a-long slice of electronic motorik. No guitar. Just self-oscillating TomKat Bender into a stereo Tri Avatar Chorus and Nemesis Delay applying pitch shifting delays. Sounds like voltage controlled bagpipes in outer space. Sweet.

I built my first kalimba (electric!) with nice elements.
Still have to get rid of some hum, but other wise very nice sounding kalimba.. This Kalimba was build by me during a workshop by Yuri Landman at Lava Lab.
