I’m sharing my set from @nowadaysnyc from February, closing out the Sunday evening of the Nonstop party after Ayesha's crazy set. This was one of my favourite moments DJing ever I think. Pure synergy in one of my favourite places to play in the world.

Theres a load of genre hopping over the four hours but everything felt quite natural and seamless, taking things from peak time bass music down to a soft house music landing with a few twists and turns along the way.

Beautiful and affirming moment dancefloor moments are not to be taken for granted! Much love to everyone who danced.

here's a recording of my set from The White Hotel in Manchester, Feb 2018 - i was closing from 5-7am after a bumpy Lena Willikens set. it was my 2nd gig of the night and my 4th in 3 days, there's a few sketchy transitions but the vibe was great so who cares.

it's definitely pretty peak time, with a few twists and turns in there too - also loads of fresh music which you might hear more of later in the year...!

Batu’s on a roll. He always is. In a few short years, the Bristol producer has made his own Timedance label widely acclaimed as one of the best out there, while his own productions constantly nudge swinging, bass heavy and broken beat techno in subtle new directions. They have come on the likes of Fringe White and Hessle Audio, while earlier this month he signed to XL Recordings for his latest EP. Always experimenting, challenging himself and and challenging us, he is an innovative artist driven by creating something new. 

In the DJ booth he’s just as interesting, and here serves up 100 minutes of music that show off his many different styles. His characterful broken beats eventually turn to techno, UK funky drum patterns and then get turned inside out as you’re left to float in a sea of ambient synths and subliminal rhythms. It’s a mix run through with the spirit of UK music from across the ages and wilfully flips mood and tempo so that you can start and end the mix at any point and it will always make sense.

For our 240th Truancy Volume, we have the great honour of hosting Bristol-based luminary Batu in the mix. Emerging as one of our favourite producers, DJs and curators in dance music over the last few years, Omar McCutcheon released the first compilation from his brilliant label Timedance in 2018: Patina Echoes highlighted some of the label’s regulars as well as new talent, also featuring individual releases by Laksa, Lurka and Ploy. After a packed few months for Batu himself with releases on other labels including R&S and XL Recordings, this week marks a return to his own imprint with his new EP, False Reeds. False Reeds consists of three percussion-driven cuts for the club, born out of vocal samples re-synthesized into new sounds as source. While it unmistakably sounds like Batu, with a thread of absorbing polyrhythms and a healthy injection of bass-weight, the EP is deliberately more in line with the warmer end of the spectrum rather than techno this time around.
