C101 MK2 - Electro

This is a bit of a play with the Roland System 1m and the AIRA Modular Scooper I picked up yesterday.  I created the Scooper loop from the System 1m Osc1 output, then just "played" the controls of the 2 units manually (System 1m LFO triggering its VCA, no other patching on either unit.)

I went to the local pro audio shop yesterday to buy a Roland JX-03 before they're sold out, but I got hypnotized by the AIRA FX modules - specifically, their amazing programmable feature set!  There's a little constellation of modular functionality inside each unit.  The shop was out of the Demora delay unit (my first choice) so I went with the Scooper (who doesn't need yet another loop recorder in their rig?)  The limited number of physical controls on the hardware helps keep things focused (otherwise you'd be constructing an entire 90hp instrument out of each module.)  I'm looking forward to a deeper dive - been reading some great ideas on Muff Wiggler.  Who needs more voices when you can get hold of abundant new opportunities to create mayhem with the voices already at hand?

Two Track Mind

Marco Martin & Toni Clemete - Mind Arp (Jam session)

First recorded patch with the Octocontroller.
 
Main sound is Chord going through the Morpheus with timed modulation creating the strumming sound. The “air” sound is the Erica Black Wavetable with quite a bit of bit crushing to get the breathy effect just cycling through the wave table with a slow LFO. The bass is Omikron going through a Doepfer Wasp with a synced LFO from the Octocontroller on the filter depth. Noise percussion is a Wogglebug OSC (finally have a good use for this thing) going through an Evolution filter. Tamed the Wogglebug a bit by giving in a sine from the Omikron into the “Influence” input. There’s a little bit of Rings to accent the bass, then a healthy dose of Clods Oliverb on the Wavetable for depth.

Octocontroller Ambience

First real patch with Mutable Instrument's Streams. Omikron going into Stream in vactrol mode with a touch of faked side-chaining along with some swing provided via Grids. Asides from that, just about everything in my rack is used. The other main sound is Qu-Bit Chord going into Evolution to create the analog string sounding pad. This is all in the rack with me just noodling on the BSP going through the precision adder and having O_C keep me honest to stick to an F ionian scale. No real sequence, just modulating gates, triggers, flip-flps and clock dividers all over the place. I'm just pulling patch cords to mute / enable voices.

Low Pass Experiments

A quick ambient track with the new WMD Arpitecht doing generative melody duties. Counter melody is the Triads expander. Note mask and triad modulated with a slow, clocked S/H.

Here's a (too long) example of Ornament and Crime in Quantermain  mode, handling chord harmonics based off a root note,  Root note is coming from a Turing Machine and Ornament and Crime is quantizing everything to scale, specifically dorian C. Patch is all generative save the kick pattern on the Analog Rytm. A fun exercise in practicing generative stuff  ... Module used include

Ornament and Crime Generative Patch

This is a track in a series from our May 28th 2017 Discussion Meeting. The focus of these tracks is demonstrate how modular synthesis can be used to self compose based on the modules patched. In this case you are hearing the power of the Nord Modular controlling 4 voices of a 5u module system.
