HIDD3N HAND’s album is a striking debut that finds its power in duality. Rooted in the rhythmic DNA of UK Garage while drenched in the expansive atmospheres of Wave, the album feels both grounded and dreamlike, equally suited for the dancefloor and late-night headphone sessions.

The UKG influence shows up in the shuffling percussion, swung snares, and basslines that give the record its momentum. But rather than relying on nostalgia, HIDD3N HAND stretches those grooves into widescreen landscapes — pads hang heavy in reverb, ghostly vocal fragments drift in and out, melodies bend and fracture. The result is a sound that pushes Garage forward rather than looking back.

Two tracks highlight this fusion best. “Middle of Night” is a masterclass in groove, its crisp percussion and vaporous synths creating the sensation of moving through a city after dark, carried by rhythm but suspended in atmosphere. By contrast, “Call Me” is the album’s emotional centerpiece — stripped back, spacious, and anchored by a haunting vocal motif that feels more like a memory than a lyric. Where one track moves your body, the other stills you, leaving you in reflection.

Across the tracklist, HIDD3N HAND shows remarkable restraint and vision. It’s not maximalist club music, nor is it purely ambient introspection. Instead, it thrives in the liminal space between. In doing so, HIDD3N HAND delivers a record that honors the past, resonates in the present, and gestures toward the future of electronic music.

In the misty mountain temples of the ancient provinces, there lived a forgotten master, Old Sage Kai, keeper of the Drunken Fist Riddim. Long ago, he traded discipline for divine groove, swapping sparring partners for sound systems and turning Shaolin forms into footwork funk.

They say he can’t walk straight but never misses a beat. With a flask of fermented peach wine in one hand and a cracked vinyl dubplate in the other, Kai shuffles, spins, and stumbles through the courtyard, looking like a madman, but striking with rhythm so sharp it makes dancers drop like dominoes.

His style blends broken kung fu stances with breakbeat syncopation, punctuated by slippery guzheng slides and chopped pipa plucks. Each stagger is a snare. Each sway is a sub. Behind him, a temple turned dancehall booms with ancient riddim energy, while paper lanterns sway to the groove like they’re nodding in approval.

"Drunken Fist" isn’t chaos, it’s controlled disarray, a celebration of asymmetry, groove, and sacred silliness. His mantra?

“Balance is for teapots, real style spills.”

Now, when the moon is full and the bass is heavy, locals whisper that if you skank just the right way, Master Kai might appear, wobbling through the smoke ready to show you a dancefloor technique that’s been banned for centuries.

The B3 offers a meditative close with “Wide Awake” from Padre Oe. A collaboration between Pete Lazonby, an artist with a long history most known for his chart heading solo production “Sacred Cycles” on Brainiak Records in the 90’s, and Otto Fischer, a Nigerian free-improvising singer, lyricist and guitarist best known for his guitar work with the Alexander Hawkins Ensemble. The track also features Henry Lowther on trumpet, widely recognised as one the UK’s best, and the strongest contributor to Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden with dozens of top of the pops appearances with a spanning list of important and renowned bands appearing at Ronnie Scott’s to Woodstock. The mood is Blue.
