The first in a series of remixes from Bad Colours critically acclaimed "PINK" album comes from up and coming NYC production duo musclecars. Tackling the Hip-House vibes of "Skin To Skin", musclecars pull back and flip the track's unexpected Brazilian outro into a Bossa Nova flavoured dancefloor chugger complete with plenty of funky organ, guitar, and an infectious bassline. A proper remix that's completely original and inspired.

Coming as one of two singles to be taken from Natalie Slade's Sampology produced album Molasses, Unquenchable Craving is an excellent slab of Australian neo-soul which highlights very well the album it is taken from.

With Sampology's production complementing Natalie's distinctive vocal style, Unquenchable Craving is a track where a heavy bass line and an infectious drum break laying the ground work for keys and vocals to interweave in a fusion of future soul, jazz and folk.

As well as Sampology on production duties the album, Molasses, also features additional production from Dan Kye along with The Dieyoungs on keys and Laneous on guitar to create an album which blends Antipodean and UK talent in a glorious ten track future soul feast.

With 'Molasses' releasing as a vinyl and digital 'Unquenchable Craving 'is an excellent showcase for the album and a compelling stand alone track in its own right.

Fresh from bringing us two incredible volumes of ‘A Journey into Deep Jazz’ and providing an introduction to Black Saint & Soul Note Records on BBE, IF Music’s Jean-Claude joins forces with Victor Kiswell for new compilation, ‘World Jazz Grooves’.

Currently celebrating 15 years of trading from his London record shop IF Music, Jean-Claude has built an enviable reputation over the past 25 years, as the go-to rare vinyl vendor for some of the biggest DJs and producers on the planet. Fellow record dealer and specialist music expert Victor Kiswell has travelled the globe several times over, hunting for rare records and DJing, appearing on a Cairo edition of Boiler Room in 2017.

As you might expect, this treasure trove of music contains a generous handful of obscure and brilliant musical gems, carefully mined from all corners of the globe.

“Europe, The Americas, Africa and Asia are all represented herein and hopefully a few surprises foryou, the listener, too” say Victor & Jean-Claude, summing up the project.

From its inspired opener: Vietnam veteran Billy Bang’s visceral New York social commentary ‘Illustration’ whose Watts Prophets inspired spoken word vocal is (sadly) as relevant today as it was in 1978; through to the album’s closer, a touching African township ballad titled ‘ITwenty-Five’, ‘World Jazz Grooves’ takes the road less travelled to provide a jaw-dropping journey through world jazz culture.

As Jean-Claude and Victor put it: “Jazz will always have its appeal: though influenced, jazz does not need to be dictated by trends. It has been experimented with by (almost) every population on the planet. It is its diversity, the fusing of various elements of different folklores, that allows jazz to constantly evolve and maintain its relevance.”

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson. BBE Music will also be looking to the future with more exciting original artist projects, plus merch collaborations events and more...
