The ‚So Good EP‘, coming from German Brigante brings yet another fantastic piece of eclectic house music to Get Physical in preparation for his upcoming album (due early 2016). With the Dub Mix and the D-Nox & Beckers remix the two-track EP isn’t afraid to take a few unconventional paths.

The D-Nox & Beckers remix takes the almost experimental-like vibe a bit further with their synthwork, putting a beautifully edited vocal in the intro to set the mood early on. They then proceed to pump out more of an after-hour vibe, taking the energy down slightly and holding it for a while. Slowly and naturally the energy rises, and what started so promisingly, pays off. The dub mix keeps a deep, steady kick under menacing and haunting synth work to create a dark and electrified atmosphere; and it’s sure to get the dancefloor moving.

German Brigante - So Good (D - Nox & Beckers Remix)

One name that has been bubbling up steadily over the past year is @Selvy, cropping up frequently as a key component to Poland's new, very underrated music generation. After spotlighting his contributions to FASRAT and Transatlantyk in late 2015, we've been keeping close tabs on Selvy's happenings.

Next month finally brings his return – the four-track POPS EP by way of newcomer label, @hollick_nobaddays aka No Bad Days. Housed in London, the imprint initially stemmed from, and now runs in tandem to, a radio show where you can tune in to hear all their forthcoming fruits hidden amidst two hours of incredibly good music and other general tomfoolery.

EP opener "Wishing Well" brings the drama. The fun of Selvy's music is sustained, with an added air that the Poznanian (we think?) is serious this time around. Tropical drum patterns ground these seven minutes of exotic house, as VHS synths chords and marimbas whir in and out overhead. Given a bonus lick of paint from Dutch jaklord Alden Tyrell, this is a strong entry from the newest and worthiest asset in Poland's electronic music game.

Hypersex is a collective love letter to the club culture. We believe we can dance our way to a better world. A world with room for everyone, regardless of their origin, political views, race, religion, gender, and sexuality.
Much like hypertext is a system designed to multiply connections between ideas, “Hypersex” was designed to multiply connections between people. It’s also a metaphor for the dancefloor: a place where, throughout history, we came together and created something new.
When I started working on it in 2016, an unprecedented refugee crisis was happening and Europe was turning its back on it. In the US, a massacre had just taken place in a gay nightclub in Orlando and the country was getting ready to elect Donald Trump. I had to respond. So I reached out to like-minded artists I admired, and set out to create my most collaborative project yet.
Hypersex is truly a collaborative effort: it features songs with Fritz Helder, Best Youth, Iwona of Rebeka, Georgia Anne Muldrow, DA CHICK, Marta Ren, Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro, Shermar Davis and Tee Flowers. The artwork is by Bráulio Amado, who I have been working with in all my albums, and whom I involved to the point of naming songs according to his illustration ideas, and not just the usual opposite. Videos were made by filmmakers Bruno Ferreira, Nuno Xico, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Paco Cruz and more to come, and also a fanzine with a dozen guest illustrators which we’ll unveil very soon.
The world we live in is getting sadder and grey. We don’t expect to change it with a record, but we might as well add some color to it.

Luis Clara Gomes, the man behind Moullinex, is paving the road towards a new album this year, and if “Open House” is any indication, get ready for a smooth ride into funk nirvana.

“Open House” is an aptly named dancefloor gem, and there is no escaping its infectious groove. The piano hugs you like a long lost friend, and when those synth stabs kick in, it’s already too late: you’re under. This is the soundtrack for an imaginary club night ran by George Clinton and Colonel Abrams in Rio de Janeiro in 1981.

And who’s that? Tee Flowers, a singer/performer whose identity has been shrouded in mystery, has stepped into light for a wake up call: the best way to counter a rising divide is to get together. Dancing is one of the last standing manifestations of collective love, so we should join forces and celebrate difference. Call it “militant escapism”.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
