Taken from Kiko Navarro’s latest, Traxsource chart-topping album ‘Everything Happens For A Reason‘, ‘Lo Siento’ is a lively latin house cut of anthemic proportions. Reuniting with latin jazz star Concha Buika, the voice behind his 2007 breakthrough hit ‘Soñando Contigo’, Kiko presents a special 11 minute extended mix of Lo Siento, as well as an instrumental version for the dancefloor purists.

Starting life in 2009 during a series of studio sessions with prolific house producer Tuccillo (Get Physical, King Street, Freerange), a demo version of Lo Siento was passed to fellow Mallorca native and long-time friend Concha Buika; within two days she had delivered a standout vocal performance, breathing life into this special piece of music.

Kiko Navarro’s ‘Afroterraneo’ label continues to explore new territories in the realm of electronic music with the second volume of album series ‘Genesis’.

Picking off right where ‘Genesis Vol.1’ left off, this second instalment opens with Kiko Navarro’s spiritual dub version of Isaac Aesili’s chillout gem ‘The Real’. Hungarian producer and drummer PALMFooD delivers exotic atmospheres in ‘Somello’, a track which summons up the sunshine with a sublime piano breakdown and evocative live percussion. 

Next, Kiko Navarro presents the stunning Yoruba Soul remix of 2007 cut Aché Pa Ti, written in collaboration with his longtime collaborator (and piano teacher) Isis "Apache" Montero. Kengo’s ‘Florida Street’ summons an eclectic carnival atmosphere, with a scratchy recording of a tribal chorus and upbeat kalimbas combined with modern digital drums and synths. 

Appearing in Beaport's ‘Best Afro House’ chart earlier this year, Afroterraneo’s debut release ‘Sea Goddess’ receives a new re-edit for ‘Genesis Vol.2’, subtly tweaking the arrangement for even more meaningful dance-floor impact. Akayan’s ‘Snakes’ lays down a rock-solid House groove, gradually stacking rhythmic stabs and fragments of melody which amount to a towering peak-time groove.

Somewhat slept-on at the time of its 2016 release, Kiko Navarro’s synth-laden dub version of ‘El Rey De Los Truenos’ by Myles Bigelow gets a well deserved new lease of life, fitting nicely into the Afroterraneo sound. KOKI’s perfectly titled ‘Unstoppable Beat’ showcases stellar live percussion performance over a frenetic and highly charged electronic rhythm; surely a must-have DJ tool.

Tuccillo's remix of ‘The First Time feat. Isis "Apache" Montero’ heads into bouncier, Chicago-style House territory with loungey jazz piano shimmering over tight, swung drums and rolling bass. Closing this chapter in the Afroterraneo story, Kiko Navarro provides an achingly beautiful reprise of The Visionary’s ‘My Life Is Music’, a set closer of his for many years, which can now be yours too.

DJ John Morales-John Morales was born in the Bronx, New York and has been involved in the creation of hit records for the better part of 30 years, playing at spots like Stardust Ballroom, Pippins, Bentleys, Limelight and the infamous Studio 54. Like many DJs of the 70s, John ventured into the studio more through need than necessity, making medleys and remixes because the records in those days were too short and being a DJ, he needed to get more out of the records he was spinning.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson.
