Wild Oats proudly presents a new 7 inch from Kyle Hall entitled ‘Eutrophia Sevan’. This project is an ode to the earth and its plant based life forms that give us sustenance, nurturing, and knowledge through both its cultivation, observation, and consumption.

Additional Notes & Thoughts:

It is my understanding that all energetic material in which we interact with serves as a software of a kind that is loaded into our systems via our five senses and influence the manner in which we behave and process our realities.

Plants have many ways of interacting with our senses. One form of this sensory interaction with plants is the ingestion of them for the purpose of intoxication. In this form the plant sends information to our neural networks which we interpret as sensation of a shift in our state of mind, body, and spirit. When a plant of this type is in the hands of a creative mind, these shifts in ones perspective can allow for the possibility of the integration of new concepts and ideas that can provide insight in an array of aspects of its consumers life experience. From this unification one now begins to see the connection between things that were once to them seemingly unrelated. These teachings then become motifs that then can be applied to whatever the creative individuals mode of expression is.

Of course we also eat certain plants to provide sustenance, nourishment and satiation. The Sweet Potato root is one of these plants that provide this for us. Having a feeling of being full, nourished, and satisfied gives a stronger capacity to be grounded. Being grounded allows for us to focus and align ourselves with what we must do in order to attract what we personally need in our lives.

Eating a plants fruit, taking its seed and caring for it till it grows into plant itself is a symbolism of the overall connection between all life and all processes that occur with in it. This indicates that plants contain a level of supreme intelligence that can only be tapped into by our communion and honoring of them.

Like legendary treasure-hunters, Kon & Amir have spent the past 30 years excavating record bins finding gems to pierce ears with. Fortunately, everyone gets to share in the riches of their labour with the release of their mixtapes and compilations. Long forgotten musicians are getting their proper dues and appreciative audiences are being turned on to some amazing music. Since first putting it down together in 1997, the duo has released a total of eight albums; various On Trackinstallments of critical acclaim, another album called The Cleaning, and an album appropriately titled,The Kings Of Diggin along with DJ Muro from Japan. With their wildly-successful Off Track series on BBE Records, they have managed to salvage some of the greatest music you’ve never heard. Audiences who are tired of being force fed sub par music will thank them for providing an alternative. As Amir puts it: “We made this for the neglected audience, for people who are looking for mature music. Simply put, these treasures are food for the soul.”

Following the release of the ‘Needledrop’ album via ‘Night Time Stories’, Session Victim announce ‘Needledrop Remixed’, set for release this June. Featuring Laurence Guy, Jackmate (aka Soulphiction), Patrice Scott, Dday One and Panoram, Patrice Scott’s remix of ‘Isle Of Taste’ is released today.

“For the remix EP of our album ‘Needledrop’, we got 5 artists on board who play and work in quite different areas and genres but all have had a substantial impact on us, musically and/or personally over the years.” – Session Victim

Expanding upon the album’s blend of jazz, electronic and downtempo, each of the remixers instill their own production styles to reimagine one of underground music’s most intriguing and genre-crossing acts into a new listening experience. From Laurence Guy’s melodic yet driving remix of ‘Needledrop’, to Jackmate’s transformation of ‘Still High’ into 5-minute, experimental rework, ‘Needledrop Remixed’ continues to reaffirm the original album as Session Victim’s most eclectic LP to date.  

With each remixer personally selected by Session Victim, the EP channels a deeper exploration of the album. Patrice Scott 90’s influenced take on ‘Isle Of Taste’ is a longer and more contemporary offering, whilst Dday One’s remix of ‘Jazzbeat 7’ adds a sinuous saxophone solo to fully embrace the experimental spirit of the original. The neo-jazz feel of ‘No Sky, Blue Sound’ is flipped to a slower tempo by Panoram, yet retains the explorative guitar solo heard on the album.

Released in March, ‘Needledrop’ is Session Victim’s anticipated 11-track album. With industry support from the likes of CRACK, Dummy, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, XLR8R and more, the album was released on 'Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’. Marking a notable shift towards the downtempo dynamic of artists like Nightmares on Wax, DJ Shadow and Portishead, ‘Needledrop’ provides a suite of both uplifting and easy-listening moments, refined and understated individually, yet cohesively crafted with the honest musicianship and inarguable credentials that we know of the production duo Session Victim.

‘Needledrop’ focuses on a large arsenal of influences across long-forgotten vinyl, 90’s computer games and beyond, rediscovering the intuitive and playful sides of their production personalities, while also demonstrating their cherished music knowledge.

What leads an individual to walk the often obsessive path of the crate digger? Raiding filthy basements and accumulating back-breaking stacks of wax on a tantalising search for the unearthed groove, Kon cites early exposure as the source of his calling: "One of the first physical records I fell in love with was Electric Light Orchestra's El Dorado. The music on that LP is incredible, climatic strings, and full of amazing songwriting. To digest and absorb music with such depth is the best thing for a 4 year old. Get 'em going young! I know this is part of the reason why later in life I searched further than what was just on the radio."

This search began in a city with a thriving live music scene and a small, significant but overlooked nest of remarkable DJ and b-boy talent: the esteemed Floor Lords crew represented through the 80s, the team behind the notorious Dope Jams record store cut their teeth in the 90s, and, today, the globetrotting Soul Clap duo call Boston home.

Kon's father was a drummer, and his love of the break not only inspired the quest for the funkiest rarities that birthed the iconic On Track and Off Track compilations, but also informed his approach to the edit. Check the 'Nite Time Remix' of 'Hooked' as the perfect introduction to his style: breaking things down to the bare essentials, the rhythm section takes on a life of its own in what has fast become the definitive version of an already classic disco workout. Kon's output has given new life to this art form, and on the road to mastery he studied the golden touch of editing and remix masters Walter Gibbons and BBE label-mate John Morales.

The natural next step for this beat-juggling heavyweight was a return to the  crafting of his own original productions. Bringing together a close-knit team of musician friends, Kon has revived a longstanding partnership with BBE and recorded his debut album titled On My Way. Kon's first productions were committed to tape in the early 90s when he a formed a rap group called Mikst Nutz. Their demo was given heavy rotation by DJs Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito, and, in 1992, Jive Records came close to signing the project. 

Since then, his sound has evolved with the musical influences he's absorbed during the last two decades of his crate digging career. The one constant throughout the eight tracks that comprise On My Way though is the funk, a term Kon breaks down with his trademark wit: “Funk. A word often used for many different things. There are more terms that can get confusing too, like boogie, modern soul and disco. I don't know what they mean, really. I just know that I either like it or I don't. I guess we need these words to define sounds and genres though. Some would even argue that P-funk just isn't funk. Even if you think it's not funk, it's still funky. Sheeeeeeet... what would Dr. Dre, Snoop and The Chronic be without it? Exactly!”

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson.
