It’s rare to find such a diverse producer with years of untapped potential ahead of them; but R.O.M is just that and so much more. The multi-instrumentalist from Dudley, UK, plays a range of guitars, drums and keyboard. Despite his age, R.O.M’s core influences stem from early 90s R&B and smooth jazz.

Unlike most children, R.O.M started producing at the age of twelve to put his thoughts and experiences into sonic explanations of his emotions. After studying the technical side of music theory at college and currently studying a degree in the field; R.O.M is expanding his fortitude with Novation Launchpad, Launch Control XL and Serato to add a new dimension to his studio and live performances. 

The majority of his music is derived from the smooth vibes of Planet Ex; where he focuses on relationships, ex-girlfriends and past loves. Interestingly the feelings in his music are only exceeded by his love of R&B songstress Tori Kelly; who is a self-proclaimed fan of his remixes.

Silent NY and Genevieve are a taster for the forthcoming album "Movements of Migration" by The Incognito Traveller. The album is a voyage through the various ways humanity changes internally, physically, and spatially, and how those aspects affect each other. People change on the inside and as a result they migrate physically; people move from place to place and the geographical and cultural differences provoke inner migrations. Movements may be social, political, physical, conceptual, and the album is inspired by these and many other shades and definitions of the ideas of "movement" and "migration". A strong focus on beats and rhythms, as well as a warm selection of sounds and samples, provides the musical base for a proper jazz-infused exploration of a world with far too many geographical boundaries.

With Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann’s latest and greatest album Momentum still making an impact on global dance floors, his label now looks to remix some key tracks from it. Getting the nod on the first of two such packages is returning favourite Andrea Oliva, plus new school stars Andhim and the legendary figures that are Josh Wink and Jesse Rose. 

Swiss tech house titan Andrea Oliva has been kicking out the jams on labels like Relief, Moon Harbour and Rejected for years. He opens things here with a turbocharged, bass-driven take on ‘Shake Shake’ that is mischievous and filled with ever more tension. When it finally gets released the 'floor is sure to explode as the drums kick once more. Ovum boss Josh Wink is a pillar of the global dance community who always comes correct, and he does so once again here with a heartwarming take on ‘Laika’ that marries incendiary hi hats with deep house drums and cosmic synth stabs. Running through it all are some classic acid sounds for that full on Wink effect.

By now Andhim are one of the most established modern tech house acts thanks to their inventive beats on labels like Get Physical. Their version of ‘Coffee Clouds’ is wonderful bleepy and melodic, with rain-like keys and globular synthesised sounds all layered over jumbled drums. It feels tribal and colourful, organic yet trippy. Last of all is the Jesse Rose, who for many years has been an ever-evolving producer, boss of Pay It Down and Made To Play, master of myriad club styles and king of the quirky groove. But, after one final album that is due soon, he will leave it all behind and head off into retirement. Before that, he comes correct on his wonky version of ‘Rybu’ with its low slung drums, curious vocals, neon chord stabs and playful and fun sense of groove all popping out of the speakers. 

All four cuts here really pack a punch and prove that Moon Harbour exactly have their finger on the pulse when it comes to fine remix talents.

RAVINE - Explorations into various human states of consciousness
The Incognito Traveller presents a profound exploration into the deepest crevices of the human subconscious on Ravine. Each song writhes and meanders into the listener in different ways and the album as a whole becomes an intense voyage, its paths converging where all inaccessible memories lie.
Ravine is a work conceptually founded on Milton Erickson’s “A Special Inquiry with Aldous Huxley into the Nature and Character of Various States of Consciousness” where author Aldous Huxley is guided into a deep hypnosis. In such state, he describes meeting with his own self at different ages and revisiting his own stages of growth and intellectual development. The Incognito Traveller translates into music the descent deep within, way beyond memories, into the purest definition of self.
The resulting work is characterized by a peculiar curiosity-provoking obscurity, permeated with glimmering instants of clarity. The production is designed to create, maintain, and heighten, a sense of incomplete understanding by bringing together aperture and space in the song structures with a balanced layering of melody, rhythm and field recordings. This altogether avoids the external claustrophobic feeling of a dark room by rather amplifying the striking openness that exists within the mind and therefore inviting the listener to explore those broad inner spaces.
Ravine works as a specific sequence of tracks that come together to form a full discourse, rather than being a collection of parts. There is a natural flow in the succession of songs that recalls the process of drowning into a hypnotic state; all song titles reference specific moments of Erickson and Huxley’s experience and guide the listener through this profound inner voyage.
A very conceptually specific album, Ravine broadens The Incognito Traveller’s view of the world by turning inwards to understand humanity from within and offer freedom for the mind.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson.
