After releasing two solo albums and a couple of other label releases such as the new Twelve Inch Jams series, Jazz & Milk founder Dusty took some time to explore new territories. While working on music with labelmate Sam Irl, he received an incentive to experiment with the sound and workflow of the MPC. As a result, Dusty came up with two House jams on which he channels old samples and analogue synths with a hint of progressive but yet very melodic acid basslines. 
“Don’t You Worry” introduces African rhythms with its percussive kalimba and conga patterns, warm synth chords and a groovy bass workout towards the end!

Finally! After years of releases on some of the most important labels in electronic music, DFA's Juan Maclean makes his debut on Correspondant with his glorious Manthony EP.

Four slabs of thumping cosmic disco; all modulating basslines and heavy chug dynamics, Juan is a man of many styles but it's clear he's tailored these especially for Jennifer Cardini's label. The primordial acidic soup of opener 'Manthony', the cloud-bouncing dreaminess of 'Bufomania', the tense bewitching adventure of 'She's Breaking Up' (with the purring cat-like vocals of Fantastic Twins) and the creepy, ever-mutating pranged out finale 'In A Minute'.

As an artist who states that DJing is "literally my favourite thing in life", Juan Maclean has once again delivered a collection of transcendent dancefloor moments for both DJs and Dancers alike.

Sleep brought with it much needed respite, an escape from his thoughts and emotions. Of late, his dreams had become much more vivid, rife with strange exchanges and far-fetched situations that left a stamp on his waking hours. Amongst the warped and familiar faces he felt both bliss and terror, yet at times he still wished he could stay in this imagined reality.

Danish producer Kasper Bjørke takes a personal approach when it comes to remixes, focusing on enlisting artists who will transform his music into something original and bring their own distinct flavour. His next batch of remixes comes in a two part package, bringing together several artists to put their own spin on his double EP Nothing Gold Can Stay. Part B rallies the likes of Bawrut, Cooper Saver, Panthera Krause, Kasper Marrott and our pick from DFA affiliate Perel.

"Soul2thePeople" is a summer-ready slice of atmospheric & soulful jazz and hip hop by multi-instrumentalist and producer Simon Jefferis, featuring and co-written by rising producer, rapper and singer Shunaji. Taken from Jefferis' debut album, 'Vibrations', released Friday 12 June on DeepMatter.

Also featuring the likes of vocalist Rosie Lowe, members of PYJÆN and Blue Lab Beats'  David Mrakpor on vibraphone, ‘Vibrations’ is an expertly crafted production masterclass from start to finish. With ease, Jefferis demonstrates the breadth of his musical capabilities, turning his hand to guitar, keys, drums and bass (with a little help from his friends along the way) with incredible results. Head nod inducing beats, jazz infused keys and interweaving textures make this a stand out record amongst the already sonically rich London jazz scene.

"Soul2thePeople was written with an amazing rapper (amongst other things) called Shunaji," says Simon. "I wanted to work with her after hearing some of her songs, which you should definitely check out. It was actually the first track written for the album after I finished the single "High Grade". I wanted to make something with constant drum and percussion movement, like a freight train going past. Dylan Jones and Ben Vize from PYJÆN came over to record some horns, sounds like they’re arguing during the solo. Shunaji, after spending some time out in California then wrote the verses, which really lifted it and turned it into "Soul2thePeople"."

Durrty Goodz pays tribute to his friend and collaborator TY (Ben Chijioke) in the heartfelt song ‘The Real Ones’, featuring cuts by Shortee Blitz.

TY was a foundation pillar of the UK Hip Hop scene, inspiring myriad artists. Whilst many knew TY for his lyrical ability, few are aware of his production skills, developed alongside longtime collaborator Drew Horley.

It was for that very reason Goodz decided to highlight the fact by using the instrumental version of TY’s own song ‘Me’, taken from his 2010 BBE album ‘Special Kind of Fool’.

Durrty Goodz is a highly respected grime MC, rapper and activist from London, active in the scene since 2003. Under his ‘OG Roots’ alias, he collaborated with on 2018 track ‘Eyes Open’, which was featured on TY’s final album ‘Work Of Heart’.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson.
