Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is back with the second installment of the compilation EPs Bring Back The Funk. Once again a strong collection of fresh jams from some new names in the scene as well as some well-established ones. All tunes has common deep roots in the raw sound of the funk from back in the days – all the way from the oldskool original funk to the bassy spectrum of ghetto funk.

BBP is proud to finally welcome the nu funk spectacular and good friend of the label: Funktomas with the raw ghetto funk banger Let Me Clear My Throat. Funktomas has numerous vinyl releases under his belt from big labels like Wack, Sunset Soul, Resense & Grood Groove. 

The EP also introduces other new names on the label like J-Sound, who is best known from his ghetto funk releases on Scour Records. J-Sound is taking it back to the oldskool on his smooth ghetto funk joint On and On.

Furthermore the EP introduces a brand new upcoming ghetto funk act: Phibes who is dropping the funky debut jam Headache Is Dangerous, which mashes up some classic soul grooves with some undeniably funky beats. Phibes has a 4-track solo EP in the making to drop over the summer right here on BBP.
Conte Crux is back to Swipe The Funk on Vol. 2 of the Bring Back The Funk series – just like he did it on vol. 1 with his Turn It Up track. 

Finally the funky producer duo Ad’N’Kuts joins the BBP family with their uptempo disco banger Disco Bombs.  Ad’N’Kuts consists of Aditup & Dastardly Kuts, who are already well-established names in the nu funk/ghetto funk scene. 

Last but not least Mr. Bristow has cooked up an oldskool mashup joint to conclude the EP and make sure we are brought way back to the world of funk. Mr. Bristow is soon to release a full 4-track EP on BBP with his partner in crime MC Benny Silver.

A.       Funktomas – Let me clear my throat (wobble edit).  Heading straight out with ‘swell’ bass and phat beats all up in your grill, Funktomas starts as he means to go on.. Big and heavy!
Updating DJ Kool for the current hipsters Funktomas seamlessly breaks open this tune to the old and new listeners leaving you wanting more from start to finish.  Expect to try and recreate the wobble like a learner beatboxer!!

B.      J-Sound – On and On. Turning Erykah Badu into a Ghetto Funk tune isn’t something many would take on but it has to be said that J-sound and created a little masterpiece here. The bass moves over you like sweet ghetto waves. A very very clean but deep bassline rolls in and around the complimentary beats alongside the vocals like they were born to be this way. Expect to sing along and completely forget what you are supposed to………. Too busy bustin’ a groove!

C.      Phibes – Heartache is dangerous. To those who know Breakbeat Paradise tunes well, an all familiar Ghetto Funk beat kicks this off but quickly come into its own thanks to Phibes. As if there was some kind of funk version of hide and seek, Busta pops up his head and spits all familiar lyrics alongside horns and scratching. Expect head boppin and air scratchin throughout!

D.      Conte Crux – Swipe tha funk.  A sound we are becoming very familiar with is Conte Crux’s upbeat Nu-Funk alongside phat funky bass and familiar old skool sounds. This one is no different and starts the show with Big Willy VS Beyonce with samples that should bewell known to pretty much anyone listening.  With Funk strings, slap bass and funk guitar expect to try and slap and pop your way to funky good times!

E.       Ad’n’Kuts Feat Kidd Linus – Disco Bombs.  From the off the Ad’n’Kuts shows they means serious business with deep sub bass and ‘proper’ breakbeat beats, and just when you think you know which direction the sound is heading a funk guitar creeps across and pan frys the funk and he isn’t finished yet..  enter HORNS!!  Expect to finish writing descriptions of tunes early to enjoy the tune one more time! J

F.       Mr Bristow – Raise yo hands. Slowin’ it back down and groovin’ right out Raise yo hands is what I consider ghetto funk blues with real soul to it which isn’t the easiest thing to create. With old tv infomercial vocals you can’t help but raise ‘yo’ right hand and groove along with the Mr. Expect roaming basslines and lovely beats and to be left wanting more.

Here at BBP we make and effort to stay true to original funk sound that our genre is build up around. Bring Back The Funk Vol. 2 is a perfect example of how we attempt to do that.

Kidd Linus, the west coast's self-proclaimed lyrical assassin, a 17-year veteran of the dance muisc industry continuously takes the masses to new heights. Having launched his career as lead Emcee, DJ, & B-boy for the Bassbin Twins live show, he has played along side some of the finest the underground culture has to offer. Behind the decks he is known for his explosive energy, DMC scratching, and innovative track selection. 

Sharpening his skills in the studio and launching Boogiebeat Records in 2006 allowed for him to gain massive support from publications such as, San Francisco Examiner, & New York’s D.A.M. Founded by Boe Pedersen (Dj BadboE) in Denmark, and now based in Florida. The label originates from the music website Breakbeat Paradise that has been running since 1996. Breakbeat Paradise is dedicated to breakers and electronic musicians within the style of music that we can loosely term as breakbeat. Developing and improving this website over the last 10 years to include everything from visitor music sharing, annual breakbeat contests, samplekits and discussion forum. We felt that going into digital music distribution would be a natural next step.

The music material on the Breakbeat Paradise website has over 1000 pieces of music. Breakbeat Paradise Recordings will  pick up the very best  “cream of the crop”, artists  and tunes and release them as digital downloads through Breakbeat Paradise Recordings  collaborative partners . We found digital distribution would match perfect with our cutting-edge funky breakbeat music and the fastest way from  the streets – to the listener and dancefloor!

With only exclusive vinyl and digital releases , we are always focused on the most important thing for us – the music! 

The music will span from traditional nu funk and funky breaks to more dancefloor oriented ghetto funk,  future funk and big beat as well as hip hop with a glitch and the more mellow side of the drum ‘n’ bass and nu breaks.
